hola + cheers for the info - i will follow some of it up - i only have a tefl but lots of experience working with young people (mainly for social services) - my initial enquiries havent been promising javascript:emoticon(' ')

My school pays foreign-contract workers a little over 5 million pesos a month, off the top of my head I think that's about �1,400 a month. Compared to the fortunes available in the Middle East (and, evidently, South Korea) that may not seem like much. But this is Colombia we're talking about, one can live comfortably like this. Is your salary of $5 Million monthly average? That seems like a lot of money for teaching in Colombia. Most of what I am running into is about $25,000 an hour and finding a full time job is almost impossible.
I'm moving to Medellin in January and I need to find something.
Any advice? |

I assume that bilingual schools pay more than langauge academies, and also that pay in Bogota is higher than most other places.
So, if I were you, I would look for a big bilingual school that is looking for English teachers!

IH is opening up in Bogota in the new year. Its not overly well paid compared to international schools, but its something. Its only 25 hours teaching a week, so you could probably make a fair bit on the side with privates too.

Yeah, 2 million doesn't sound like much - and La Candelaria might look nice, but it's not the safest area.
But probably easier to get work there than at a bilingual school. |
