My new school are being unbelievably civilised about all this. There are extra 'make up' days on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 8th October, as is probably the same for everyone. However, they have altered the schedule so that a 'singing competition' (which they had been planning for a normal weekday) will take place on the Saturday, which means that we don't have to go in to school at all (unless we have a desperate desire to watch the singing contest). And on the Sunday they have picked the easiest schedule.

Why don't all schools use these extra-makeup-days-stupid-days to reschedule 'fun' things that otherwise would have been on weekdays, like say a sports day being over those two days? I'm sure it would piss people off a lot less.

jammish, that suggestion is so simple and so practical. May some clever Chinese appartchik read this board and claim it as his own.

Friday the 29th and Sat the 30th are sports meet days and I'm not required to attend. I'm leaving town on Friday morning. No one has said anything to me about make-up classes on Sunday the 8th and I'm not asking. I don't usually teach Sundays. If they don't tell me, how can I know? I'll show up for work as usual on Monday the 9th.

To be politely told that you have missed a day of lessons that will have to be made up later!

The students don't like this arrangement. Our FTs certainly don't like this arrangement. I had the foresight this year to book one of the media rooms (now all fully booked by the other Chinese teachers) and will be showing DVDs to "full" classes (class monitor, not I, checks the register on this special occasion!)
