				| Well these thoughts are certeinly helpful. Now as I keep searching for the Holy Grail that is my one day flight to Winnipeg, I was wondering if anyone knew what airlines serviced Huatulco, any other than Mexicana? And what is the quickest way for a person with no car to get from Ixtaltepec to Huatulco when they work until 7pm? | |

				| The quickest way? Hire a helicopter I imagine. Barring that expense I'd say hire a cab, fire him up with a few double espressos and hit the road...
I'd bet you could make it in about 4 1/2 hours.
I did it in 2 1/2days myself by bike.

				| Bus from Ixtaltpec to Huatulco would be about 4 1/2 hours...I have seen the way the taxi drivers speed along Hwy200 to Huatulco and you could easily make it there in 3 hours. If you work until 7PM, I doubt you could make it out of Huatulco that night. You might want to look at an overnight bus to DF (about 11 hours) and then leave straight from there. More airline options and probably a whole lot cheaper too. BTW, Shanny, you may be in luck next year. In January 07, Delta will start to offer flights from Winnipeg to DF via Salt Lake City...

				| Here's something no one has said, but that takes a little more planning on your part.
I'm from the US, not Canada, so I have it a little bit easier, but my parents live FAR from any major airline hubs, so it usually takes me three flights to get home as well. For the first 5 years that I was in Mexico, I was working on roundtrip US-Mexico-US tickets. Buy a one way ticket back to Canada, and get a round trip on one of those cheaper charter flights with a six month return. I imagine you are working at UNISTMO right? so its pretty easy to anticipate the date of your next vacation, and I've found that flights are cheaper on Thursdays, so I usually take Thursday and Friday before vacation off. So you'd get a one way home for Dec. A round trip to Mexico for Jan. 2nd returning to Canada on July 12th. Then as July approaches you buy the next ticket Back to Mexico on July 26th, returning to Canada on Dec. 16th, and so on and so forth. I guess this doesn't work if you don't plan on visiting home each vacation, as I said, I did this the first five years, and now haven't been back for almost 4 years.

				| MELEE,
That is a great idea! Unfortunately there is a small snag with the Huatulco connection. Canadian Charter companies only fly to Huatulco between the middle of December and the middle of March. It is likely different out of Oaxaca city though...

Continental offers direct service from HUX to Houston (about a 3-hour flight). About 18 months ago I flew Continental round-trip from HUX to YVR, with a relatively short-stop each way in IAH. They were okay flights and the price was very reasonable. Unfortunately they've changed their flight schedules around, so I don't have that option, but you might do better flying to Winnipeg...
