Yeah...this new concept might actually bring in some headaches to the banks in China in a sence of default payments i would assume
Dear concerned,

| 4,000RMB is a good wage if you are only working 20 hours a week. If you do say 10 hours of privates a week say at 100 RMB, in a month you'd be earning 8000RMB. You telling me that this end wage isn't good enough to live on and save at least some of your money? |
I guess the point is that out of that kinda Chinese money one might not be able to save up a half a mil US ...well if you are really young and wish to stay and work in China for a loonggg time
Heads up to ya and your desk work there
and
cheers and beers to the hard working FTs in China |

Ten hours of privates on top of 20 hours of teaching? 哎呀,累死我!Private lessons are the killers. Personally, I'd take 65 students over one given the option on how to spend one hour of this squishy life. The amount of preparation, correction and sheer intensity of a private gradually mounts, and leads me at least to mind-numbing exhaustion. All that could just be my bad luck with privates (two of my students over the course of a year had problems with flatulence. I often reminded these "men" about the rudeness of excessive farting but nothing got through. I even taught several phrases for excusing one's self after dropping a stinker. The dudes always forgot by the next lesson. I can still see their faces: blank; not even a small snicker after their arses would chuckle)
But then again, if a private lesson only means free talking, I suppose ten hours a week of sitting back for an hourly chat with free refills of tea isn't all that demanding, that is presuming students don't cancel, or something else preventing the class -- sickness, headaches -- arises.
Don't forget, getting to and fro (if the privates aren't at one's abode) adds a lot to those ten hours.
This isn't an attempt at dissuasion; just my personal reflections on "the private". |

I never said you would save a million. Maybe half though Only that you could save. Maybe a hundred or few hundred bucks a month. Yeah only 5 more months of this desk job.
Just saying that in Korea the usual work week is 30 hours. In China it appears to be around 20. Do some privates and earn a little extra cash instead of being lazy and complaining about the living costs. Makes you enjoy the weekend more if you are working hard during the week.
As for private lessons depends on what you get. With kids you just have to make it fun and interesting. No point in trying to drill the alphabet into them when they get that at school a few hours every week.
Working with adults would be better if it was free talking. But there are plently of things to teach and talk about to adults. Take a newspaper in and talk about the news and life. Take them out for a beer one night or something. Show them something cultural on TV etv
Even with your kids take them to Mc Donalds or the cinema. Always fun and less planning. Also gives you something to talk about in your next private lesson. |

Sorry, I thought you did. My appologies if you didn't. The bottom line is that half a mil US is tough to save here in China...need a long long term committement somewhere I think that's what you need to stay in China no problem. I think that's what the discussion's been about before.
Good luck to ya on that "desk job" and after it
Cheers and beers |
