Regardless of the secret thoughts we all may or may not have, there is such a thing as 'integrity', JT. Now I know you're only looking and thinking, not yet touching, but it might be easier to (get to) sleep at night and what's more stay out of trouble entirely (should temptation ever rear its ugly head) if you were concentrating on things other than some girl's *ss.

So, he goes trolling near the high school and sees a group of girls in their uniforms. Jon Taylor then starts off with, "She's 15, short skirt, too young. Then the next one is 16, short skirt, too young. Oh, she's 17, same uniform, she's cute, not too young." Get your head screwed on straight. They are children. Rolling Eyes Your mom Ms. Taylor is probably very ashamed, and probably keeping you away from the grandchildren. Rolling Eyes

Jon, it's a slippery - ooh er! - slope that you're on. As canuck says, you're oggling kiddies, and well on your way to doing a Polanski if you ask me. You can't really expect educators to indulge you in your remarks - certainly, I'd be very hesitant to join you (if we worked in the same school) in remarking upon any girl unless she were literally shoving it "in our faces" and being more indecent than you - and even then, I'd be wishing she'd just cover it up. Generally I don't like an excess of testosterone, leering, innuendo, boasting etc in the workplace, even when it's more sexually mature (i.e. age-appropriate) women that are being talked about.

Jon, I'm beginning to wonder if you're the guy that I mentioned in the following thread:

I'm not gonna defend Jon's position, but I will say this: his honest remark about looking-not-touching is pretty tame compared to what I've overheard fellow ex-pats say in gaijin bars about this topic. And it's tame compared to what gets said on this topic by countless gaijin teacher pervs on sites like Bigdaikon. And very tame compared to what fellow ex-pats have bragged about doing with some of these girls in skirts.

And surely you know the perv-o-meter standard on this issue is set first and foremost by Japan and Japanese men, and a walk by any conbini magazine rack is clear enough evidence of that. The school girl/kiddie porn look is currently neck and neck with the nubile hotel maid look.

Nor is professional integrity violation the sole ownership of gaijin like Jon. I've been shocked, but not suprised, to hear what comes out of my Japanese teacher colleagues' mouths (including supposed role models, kocho and kyoto) late into the nijikai. But Japan isn't known for its advances in women's liberation or gender equality.

Frankly, I think parents have to take some responsibility as far as dress code goes. If I ever heard of or saw my high school daughter wearing her skirt like that, I'd make a concerted effort to see that it stops. I don't think many parents do much, maybe because salaryman father is never around and mother feels powerless. Or maybe parents simply bow to what they feel is the norm.

In the end, anyone who's lived the peer pressure / hormonal horrors of high school life (and all of you have) knows that trying to make kids at this age do something, only makes them want the opposite all the faster. They do grow out of this and the sexy-skirt fashion displayed by high school girls is toned down considerably once they get to university, at least it was where I was teaching last year.

I like to make fun of pervs, but it seems such posts get deleted.

I have to say, if you are offended by men who find 17-18 year old schoolgirls in mini skirts attractive, you have chosen to live in the WRONG country Shocked

While it's quite disturbing for a person in a position of possible authority to express his views on this particular subject on a teacher's discussion board, I think anyone male or female, is being disingenuous if they say they do not find a 18 year old of the opposite sex attractive on some level.

Society's rules regarding this issue have always been in flux but you simply can't rule out thousands of years of evolutionary biology.

So are we upset because a man finds an 18 year old attractive or are we upset because a teacher finds 18 year old schoolgirls in their school uniforms attractive?

Hmm, well, I suppose that appreciating that a girl student is indeed pretty and attractive, and perhaps thinking in your mind 'Ah, if only I were younger!' (perhaps her classmate LOL) is OK, just as long as there is ultimately a genuine "wishing her well" in your heart towards her, where you see her more as an innocent youth with a bright unknown future than as a piece of flesh intended for some "lucky man's" sexual amusement: think Kev Spacey near the very end of American Beauty and you'll get the picture.

As for some Japanese being worse when it comes to that whole Lolita thing, that doesn't really justify one being "not quite as bad", does it? Anyway, generally, I don't condemn it to their faces and can only try my best to ignore it, not think (too) badly of any person who "admits" to "it" (e.g. a drunken Japanese colleague once told me at an enkai that he liked 'rorita AV', seemed a nice enough guy, so I didn't assume he was some paedosnuff killer or anything). Different strokes for different folks, especially those in/from different countries to mine, but that don't mean I gotta quite become a Roman now (when in Rome...), does it....

BTW, have you seen Lyne's 'Lolita'? I haven't seen Kubrick's, but I "enjoyed" Lyne's (for its dark atmosphere, haunting music etc).

Ahh yes one of the reasons I love this country Smile
Anybody else notice the absolute tree trunks of legs that some girls sport around here? I'm not talking 'big' girls either. Rather perfectly normal sized, attractive girls many of whom are equiped with absolute bone-crunching thighs. Not something I recall from my highschool days.

I just find that the legs of Japanese girls are not as shapely as their western counterparts. I recall: trim, well contoured, tan (finally, one good point about HS in Florida!) legs. Too many Japanese girls have got that daikon-ashi thing going on, in the bad way.

Haha....daikon-ashi thing. Sorry I just had to laugh at this one. Good one. Do you also notice that a lot of Japanese girls have big butts? I'm not complaning...but its kind of interesting. Japanese people are known to be skinny and healthy, and they are (mainly due to their diet I believe). But it's interesting (and cute) when they have these nice slim upper bodies and then go below their waist and their butt shows with their big legs. But hey, I'm from America...the women are much better here. I'm not complaning or hating...just stating an observation.

Probably for the same reason as Japanese schoolgirls having to wear very short and I might add, very cute skirts.
Rather than seeing them as pityful, I find it very pleasing on the eye and it warms me up on a cold winters morning.

Short dresses on Japanese school girls is now part of Japanese culture, and it's one aspect that seems to be spreading. It's hit Korea, but it's more the university student thing. There is a general innocence about the school kids anyway, and I hardly think there into trying to be seductive. Just a young female fetish about showing off their legs methinks. If your in a highschool environment teaching them then it will probably run off you like water, because you would be too busy trying to fill their numskull heads with more useless knowledge.

Any red blooded male would find them attractive and sexy, but it's if that's all it is and no masturbating in the toilet afterwards then so what.
