Nothing personal, Guy, because I know you don't intend to sound like it, but your comments here seem to be getting more and more condescending as you go along. Wink

Hmm. Those of you living in coastal or warm areas perhaps don't realize that not all parts of Mexico are the same as where you are. A/C isn't common in DF. Let me rephrase the question.

I used a laptop in Acapulco when I lived there. It was in and out of A/C and that caused damage. Do those of you living in hot parts of the country find similar problems with computer equipment (all types of computer equipment), whether it stays in A/C or not? LS mentioned that some teachers there do bring laptops into class.... and some of you have mentioned, at one time or another, that your facilities have A/C, at least partially.

You'd need high-speed internet to do it right. Getting to be pretty standard in DF now....maybe not in the smaller towns yet?

You're right, I didn't mean to sound condescending with this at all. I figured it was the right answer to delacosta's comment since online video needs a high-speed connection. Since delacosta asked, I asked if high-speed connections aren't that common yet away from large population centers like DF. Tim, I know it's available in Merida, for example, so the question was if it is becoming standard in other places. I was thinking that a conversation about online video availability and application would develop from that.

A/C isn't common here either, especially not among the common folks, and Merida would definitely be considered a "warm" area. Currently 33 with 67% relatively humidity, and it'll be 36 or 37 when I head for work this afternoon.

Only certain buildings/rooms on the campuses of the state university here have A/C. For example, the computer/language lab for our department has A/C . . . but it is only turned on when teachers take their classes in to use the lab, which is only a few hours per day at most.

As for tech equipment and the climate here, I'm sure the hot, humid climate isn't the best for computers. I think an equal problem is the dust and dirt when computers aren't kept in A/C. Open windows, ceiling fans, a dusty street in front of my house, and a cement company next door = lots of dust and dirt blowing in. One time when my PC died and I took it to the techie to be fixed, he discovered that the problem was a gecko. Poor little thing had gotten inside my computer, touched two wrong wires at the same time, and fried.
