Wildfire, waving a CELTA around in the ME is rather like confessing to drinking Barbican at your first AA meeting ...
The A+ simply meaning a lot of Barbican ... |

Well VS...what you are saying is that my post is incorrect. LOL.
It is not it is right on the money. I think my advice to you is feel free not to read my post. And I am free to post and correct misinformation or add new information which is current.
To K. Again, in the UAE different places are very differenct situations, more so than lets say OMAN, QATAR, KUWAIT etc...The UAE does have a lot of teachers where as the other GULF countries have a more difficult time attracting people.
I do know a couple of places in the UAE which are constantly hiring but they don't advertise on DAVES or TEFL. They are recieving resumes from a lot of teachers in OMAN etc ..who have friends already there and word of mouth.
Even in Oman I could give you a list of schools that are understaffed, but I am not going to become MARY RECRUITER and recieve a thousand emails from newbies asking WHICH ONES? The recruitment teams are frustrated by hiring OVERSEAS expats who often go through the whole process and never SHOW, ie: they don't get on the plane. Or the teachers haven't done their research and ask for wages that rival that of OIL FIELD workers.
The salaries for even a good qualified teacher have frozen, or gone down a bit, and the cost of RENT etc had jumped as we all KNOW to outrageous amounts. I don't know about KUWAIT, but true for all the other GULF countries.
With this ...and shortage of housing bringing in NEW people becomes expensive and time consuming. Plus most people in these countries (as in LOCALS) are quite disorganized and arranging housing or BUILDING new housing sees like a massive job to be avoided at all costs.
So with all these details a lot of places are pouching from place to place.
Taking STAFF already here, who they know won't run away after 5 days and who don't need to get a VISA which can take up to 12 weeks.
I have been approached by several places, this won't happen to ALL teachers maybe even very few. But enough to fill the gap for a short time till next years recruiting process begins again.
Some places will fly in staff on TOURIST VISAS then process them in, but this is becoming uncommon.
Also it looks bad in public if the year has started and the UNI is still advertising for staff. LOL.
So they often just go through OLD resumes from a few months back etc...and start emailing out request etc...
Again not ALL teachers have been approached who are already in the country. Usually you will have been there for a while, developed a healthy rep., and sent out CVs so UNI's know that indeed you want to change your work place.
They don't take kindly to people changing after just one year, and see it as a sign of lack of commitment, in some cases. If you don't like your job GET OUT FAST. Don't wait a year. |

Then let me spell it out for you ... I didn't ask if you had one ... I commented on your very proudly informing us of your having one ...
It's surprising that someone with an A+ can't tell the difference ... |

What I don't UNDERSTAND is why some FLAKEY characters on here LIKE to STRESS some words by using capital LETTERS.
BUT now that I have TRIED it I rather LIKE it and may POST this way IN future.

American Heritage Dictionary - flaky also flakey (flk)
adj. flakier, flakiest
Slang. Somewhat eccentric; odd: that slightly flakey quality, in joy as well as in grief, that prepares us subtly for the mad scenes to come (Village Voice).
GUSH GUSH...i am flattered
AND TO THE SHIEK...you need to visit your optomitrist again...and re-read what I wrote. ahahha..you are killing me...ahahahah..
I WROTE...because I knew someone would ASK me if I had one.
So then I wrote it, I explained it and YOU STILL HAD TO COMMENT ON IT.
LOOOOL. Too funny.
god i hope we never work together your pettiness will drive me insane in the membrane.
hahaha..too long in the sun my fine bookworm.

I see teachers who are NEW to teaching and very young 25 etc get 11000 dirhams a month with various respected companies etc... Mostly because they got hired when companies are desperate. |
Praytell, wildfire, WHICH INSTITUTIONS ARE THESE PEOPLE WORKING AT? They certainly never post on here to boast about their success. I lived in the Gulf for 3 years with a CELTA and a bachelors, pounded the pavement, took leads, was referred, applied to a slew of employers (not limited to the universities) you name it. With 6 years of experience (5 in the Arabic-speaking cultures) I was never offered more than 9500 dirhams/month and that included my accommodation or my accommodation allowance. Where are they working in the UAE? In Kuwait? In Saudi? In Qatar? I know people in Oman, after 3 years with a non-TESOL masters and CELTA earning around 10,000 plus accommodation/allowance. So if you know loads of new teachers, do share the countries they are in and the organisations they work for. After all, your anonymity is guarded here. |

well
i have no reason to lie
u kind of missed the boat. Actually they did post on TEFL but many months ago.
i would rather protect their identity than to drag them into a forum they haven't asked to be mentioned in. As we all know our HEADS do scroll these pages as they get paranoid piss-d off staff will write some nasty blurbs about them etc..
it is all about TIMING and well...sometimes I think TIMING is just 90 per cent of it. Of course you need to be qualified, but hey if you can knock their 'socks off ' in a great interview and get paid the MOOLA$$$ then good for you.
u know i get paid 500 dollars a month more than a couple of teachers who are more qualified on paper (IE - just higher degrees)... WHY...because I knew how much i could ask for BEFORE i negotiated and I pushed them as much as I could.
And the place use to pay more, now ...well lets just say if you are savy I bet you could still get the higher salary. The trick is not to ask for it in the FIRST email...let them take the BAIT, and impress them so much that they can't imagine NOT hiring you.
Ya, about the young over paid staff...lucky ducks...but unlikely they will be able to find another job as HIGHLY paid at their age once their contracts end. They will sink down to the rest of the newbies more or less...unless they get very lucky. I think they were exceptionally lucky with a lot of applications and people disappearing for the summer.
U know i haven't ALWAYS been a teacher and in my other job i was able to negotiate more perks than most of the others. I admitt...it was luck and skill. |

Yah, well, lots of people comment on here all the time, sharing general information about contracts and such. I've listed companies and schools by name and given general salary and work condition information here. If I feared repercussions, I would choose some login name, like "wildfire", that wouldn't give me away. If I couldn't contribute to discussion with real information, as opposed to vague indications, then I probably wouldn't post at all. You have helped absolutely no one by promising high salaries to new teachers in the ME, whilst offering no indication of where those contracts might be. Me thinks you, the holder of great information and limited posts, are a troll. |
