I've had experience of 2 different partially sighted colleague teachers in Asia. They both got along fine, although one of them had already majored in the foreign language of the country we were teaching in, so it definitely made it easier for him.
From the outside, one of them clearly had something wrong with their eyes, and I think some students were initially distracted by the guy's physical appearance, but once they got to know him, he was very popular.
I've also heard about a totally blind teacher on the Japan JET program, who has done more than 1 year there, and has recently won some award (hence I was reading a news article about him.)
Can be done if the applicant feels confident about their abilities. |
