You do not need an export license to purchase goods and ship them out of China.

Yes, you do.

Anybody can do that, and they do it every day. You do not need a partnership with a Chinese export company, nor do you need to invest 200,000 RMB in anything. There is no reason whatever that you should pay commissions to anyone, nor to depend on others.

I would say someone in your network must have that export license! If youre dealing in pre-existing consumer goods, and can find a buyer, Im sure the (licensed) agents would be happy to take their cut off the bottom and handle all the details. Do you deal direct with factories as well? Many factories have export agencies that they are in longstanding relationship with. The relationship may be so close that you don't even realize there's a difference. The deals Ive put together were for custom technology, big money, industrial machinery so we may be talking about entirely different ballgames here. But either way, without that license, you're going though an export agency.
And all the goods I've dealt in have indeed had a VAT tax. Unless your company is loaded to gills and can wait out the rebate, it's better to go through a licensed trading company that can afford to have large sums tied up in the interim anyway.
I've never dealt in consumer goods myself, and I realize you have a lot of experience doing what you do, but I don't think it's right to give the folks on this board the impression that they can simply buy up whatever goods and load them onto an outbound cargo ship without the relevant export license. They cannot. That would be illegal. |
