Agree, CV is most used in most of the universities, especially in UK and the Gulf. What about somebody who is an Engineer or a Mathematician, do you think a 'Resume' of two pages will be enough? I do not think so!
As one poster wrote before, 'Resume' are widely used in USA.

What about if somebody send his CV as .pdf format, is it acceptable or not recommended? Because I do not want my CV to be modified, may be, by mistake! or to be printed with funny characters or distorted formatting! You know these things happen! Laughing

First problem is that not all computers have acrobar reader installed by default whilst Wordpad at least comes with Windows (Yes, do remember to check what your CV looks like in Wordpad).

Second problem is that Acrobat is notoriously slow buggy software responsible for multiple crashes. The user, will of course associate this behaviour with your CV.

"Resumes" are the norm in the USA outside of academia. Within academia, one sends CVs, which are longer. A resume is normally 2 pages, 3 max. A CV is a detailed academic list of conferences, publications, etc. in addition to employment and educational history, and is therefore by nature an average of about 6 pages long.

In ESL/EFL, resumes are the norm, and that means outside the USA, the terms "resume" and "CV" are interchangeable. While I have seen one or two long ESL CVs that look like academic ones (i.e., for professorial positions) most ESL/EFL resumes/CVs are 2-3 pages.
