Chinaamber your 100% wrong. Teachers have office hours, not just managers. Ask anyone on this sight, and you wll find many people, espcially working for universities and teaching centers, who have office hours. Where exactly did you get this nonsense which you are spreading on here about teachers not having office hours?

Hey Nathan I think that nice person Chinaamber was talking specifically about Astons - maybe the ordinary teacher there only has to work in a classroom - at 4000/month I hope so!!! But dont despair Astons may exclude you from the office - but from KFC's - just look at this from that Aston site - a genuine classic -
Quote:
KFC and Dongying Aston a perfect partnership

The Dongying Aston School has been working in conjunction with KFC to give back to the community through our weekly English corners. They have been a great success usually having 60-80 enthused participants attend each week. The English corners have provided a wonderful opportunity for the people of Dongying to meet the Aston foreign teachers and engage in culture exchange. KFC has been so pleased with our partnership they have insisted that the Aston school extend there English corners to all three of their locations.

Everyone in the community is welcomed to take part in the Aston English Corner. They are held every Saturday night from 7pm-8pm. Come and have fun at KFC with some truly special people, and if you are lucky you might even become the winner of our special door prize.

wowwwwwwwww - astons may not do much for your bank ballance - but with all those potential fry-ups - watch that waist line Laughing
Chinaamber - I can't thank you enough for alerting me to this gem of a site Wink

You might wanna check this link out:

http://www.teflwatch.org/58/aston-english-school-china/

It seems like they have a pretty much ok repuation, more than 3 stars out of 5 with a half a dozen votes. You could definitely do worse than them.

quite an aggressive one and at a rate of 100 percent ... recent threads might go the right way or the wrong way fifty-fifty with this one
spreading more of that nonsense, i'd say that i know a few FTs that do not need to put those office hours together so much Wink

peace to percentages
and
cheers and beers to all hard working FTs in China Very Happy

Give me office hours any day - over forced labour at an English corner in the KFC Laughing

By the way newbies - respect sgt.Killjoys post and those reviews he talks about on his site - I know nothing about astons - apart from the web. But remember the wages are on the bottom end of the wage scale - but despite that people seem to enjoy this company - so best of luck to them Wink

It seems clear that there is really nothing wrong with Aston English School despite the desperate attempts of one poster here to try to suggest otherwise. I am sure that there are some teachers out there who would not choose to work for Aston's again, but it does seem that the majority of people have good experiences.

Most Aston schools are franchises and as such they can pay as little or as much as they want. They pay from RMB3,200-7,000 from what I can see depending upon school location and hours, and teaching hours tend to range from 15 to 25. As one of their teachers has pointed out - unlike some other schools there is no office work requirements in most of the Aston schools and that's a bonus for many.

Those wages are similar and in fact a bit higher than similar jobs in the same areas (many of which are small cities) and it is worth factoring in that Aston Schools have their own curriculum which saves teachers from having to plan much on their own time without pay.

It is up to the individual of course but working in a comfortable clean school environment, with a clear curriculum to follow, reasonable class sizes, and somewhat enthusiastic students, as well as being sure that you are working legally, and in a school where it seems that most teachers are happy are all things that should be considered. Ultimately though if the job does not fit you for whatever reason then you are free to find work elsewhere, but that does not make the school a bad school.

what attempts - have you read anything in my posts that have suggested this school was bad - anything that discourages FT's to go and work for this chain? I'm just commenting on the info that is available on Astons - which is mostly on their website Wink
But you Clark - you state here -
Quote:

have you categorical proof of that - you would be happy endorsing all of the Aston chains on your info - which must be more info than you are giving out in the posts of these threads Laughing

As for me - for the second post - I will state I know nothing apart from the info Ive found on the web - of this chain. But I do know I wouldn't be happy working on a 4000/month/15 hours/week type wage - and that the thought of public English corners in macs/KFC/carrefour supermarket - well that doesn't really turn an old codger like me on. But then I - just like Clark (???? 0r maybe he does - but we never know cause he never tells us about what he does) - haven't chosen to work for 'em Wink
but tell us Clark - how are you able to back up this kind of statement -
Quote:

have you been to many aston schools - have you got to know a lot of their students - do you often inspect this chains standards of hygiene - and that curriculum - tell us more about that. But then again ol' Clarkie could have gleaned all that info after a visit to his local KFC Laughing

never mind that local KFC, he's been in the back seat of a chinese police car too...maybe, that's where he's got so much "experience" Wink

peace to the one who's got loads of offers in taiwan and china
and
cheers and beers to his relentless experiences Very Happy

They are legit, but not "too legit to quit."

I work for Aston in Shenyang and I was treated like absolute trash. It was a terrible experience. My advice is to avoid Aston.

I think you will enjoy working for them, but you should ask about "overtime" pay for dressing up like a chicken to recruit new students from KFC.

Don't forget the monkey suit! They wanted me to jump like a monkey in front of Walmart, during a promotional. I'm 44 years old. How can I jump like a monkey?
