If you feel Melee's comments appear to be "bashing" (bashing what?) then let me say that your bumping old posts forward by the hundreds could be misconstrued as "trolling". That or Tony Dicer has a secret admirer. |

How about the 10 decapitated heads rolling on the dance floor in Alcapulco?
Was that a State Department warning? Hope not, because they can neither count nor locate the incident, which was not 10 and did not occur in Acapulco. |

I know you must be acquaintences, and would like to let you know I'm not launching a personal attack. After reading about State department warning posts, I thought it interesting that her focus was very aggressive towards the US. First thing that came to mind is why is she so angry. I am American and I know the US has its problems.
When I first created an account on here, I posted a new topic concerning a fm3 working visa. I had reviewed lots of topics and posts, but some of the specifics I was looking for were not covered. The first response was from someone saying 'this topic has been covered over and over again. go back and look at the threads' .... that was a nice way to welcome a newcomer.
I'm not a youngster, and have lots of questions since I've arrived.... and the help of teachers with experience would be fantastic. I feel overwhelmed and thought I could get lots of the information from people on this site. I may or may not stay in Mexico. I came down to get a feel for things. And now that I am here, a million questions come to mind. So, if I decide to make a go of it, then I'll be prepared and my needs will be met.
Is a newcomer welcomed on this site? Or is it just for the good ol boys? |

Newcomers are welcome; trolls are not.
If you have serious questions, post 'em. If not, please leave. |

Thank you.
My questions are genuinely asked.. The answers will be valuable to me.
Some of my responses have been to join in the discussions. Didn't realize I would find comfort socializing with other English teachers on Daves, but I enjoy being here. |

Right, a little thank you to those answering your questions here would be appreciated. If you have a new question, please make a new topic so that we don't have to read all the way to the bottom of an old thread to see your new question. Posting an innocent but idle comment on an old thread bumps it to the top with new questions and that's really tedious when people are busy, yet still trying to help.
You could pop into language schools in Guadalajara and ask them some of these questions. That would be a great way to get a feel for things as you say you are trying to do. Sitting in front of a computer in Guadalajara asking general questions about schools all over Mexico is not the best way to orient yourself to a particular city that you have just landed in, IMHO. If your passport is in order and you are genuinely here looking for work, then why not take it a step at a time instead of worrying about a million things at once. Most people do a lot of this research prior to coming to Mexico, so yes, it is a lot to digest and very overwhelming if you are trying to find out these things all at once and AFTER arrival here. You will meet teachers and co-ordinators in the various language schools, spanish schools, etc. who should be quite happy to help in Guadalajara. That's the best place to start right now, since you are already there. |

the united states is a lying, deceitful, arrogant empire whose only goal is to maximize wealth for itslef, and to ensure that it has tried to brainwash americans that they are safe in the US and at risk abroad.

The US is the biggest exporter of spell check systems, as well. I am not usually one to comment on mistakes but this is a forum for English teachers. You would think a basic knowledge of spelling and grammar would be appropriate.
Carry on, Hugo. |

Whoo-ee! Stepped away from the computer for a bit, and I missed the thread where I may have been useful. It's coming a little late, but Oaxaca is exceptionally tranquillo right now. Sometime during my vacation to the Great White North, the PFP slipped out of town and now there are idyllic things like concerts and dancing in the zocalo, rather than mess lines and banks of porta-potties. Who knows what the future may bring, but for now all is calm.
As for State Department Warnings, I lost a little of my idealism about my government looking out for me when I showed up here, accidentally in the midst of things (I think as warnings were being issued), then tried to go to the embassy (or is it consulate?) for guidance, to find them helpfully closed. Less than 10 people killed in months and months and they close the office? Seriously? Ah, well. Put me in the grain of salt camp. |

There's still quite a bit of cleanup and painting to be done in many areas.
One of my co-workers owns a small house in Oaxaca and spent two weeks there in late December, so I asked her what the city is like now.
She told me that about 85% to 90% of the damage has been cleaned up. If a tourist visits the city today, he/she will notice a fair amount of security personnel and some damage. In particular some of the historical buildings have not been repaired simply because the experts are arguing about what the best method is for repairs.
And of course, this is all as of January 2nd when she returned, so things will be even better now. |

Playadelsoul is a GREAT example of how posters will, amazingly and audaciously, take things personally, cross that line of personal respect and insult or offend a fellow poster personally, whenever they read a post that politically rubs them the wrong way or something.
The US is an arrogant empire which is in its last throes, it doesnt give a rat's ass about any of its citizens' wellbeing, sorry to break the news.
If this offends you, then I was right when I said you must be living in a delusional Leave It To Beaver time warp, when people really believed in US government hype and propaganda.
As for my spelling, it is impekkable, and az for my aje, its nun of yer bizniss. |
