My point wasn't to suggest that all language mills were, by their very nature, necessarily crappy but just that...a number are. Now I've never worked in one (other than as a brief unpaid favour for a friend who was a 'DOS' at one) and wouldn't most likely in the future but I did know of a number whose hiring policies were linked to the colour of the skin of the applicants and no more.
To be more succinct, I'd hazard an explanation for my 'crappy' quote as being prompted by seeing some of the idiot foreigners easily finding employment in them despite having been sacked by half a dozen other places in the same city. Not that I blame the managers of such centres (they are running a business) but for the least responsible foreigners* and the least culpable (according to themselves) owners then look to the language mills.
* - Yes I'm generalising etc. great teachers there as well and so on, I was just saying...anyway, I could say the same about some of the uni teachers I knew! |
