So if you leave the country and don't get a release letter can you get a new visa?
I've never been in this situation but if the above works that might make the most secure route.......... |

Thats an interesting point traps.
If you left at end of your contract with everyone happy don't see why a new job and visa would be a problem.
I was so happy to be going home at the end of my last gig that I didn't question the Chinese internal paperwork.
If, on the other hand you did a runner or somesuch...
Maybe someone can throw some light on this? |

in fact interesting
the letter of release might've been designed for those midnight runners who look for more suitable gigs elsewhere the next day
going home on the end of a gig shall provide anyone with yet another opportunity to come back unless bridges have been burnt

Some schools will try and eliminate the possibility of a FT going to a competitors school after finishing the contract and will delay/refused the issuance of a release letter..just another form of business in China... |

School B now leans on School A to get release cert (I don't call it a letter because the one I've seen is just dates and a one sentence comment).
Delay in handing it over is just Chinese making use of even limited power.
Moral: Exit even from s*** jobs all smiles and expressions of esteem. |

Be careful about that "one sentense comments" letters in Chinese. At times, few characters in those letters might say more than any other professionally written western styled letters.

This is sadly true in this modern China eager to invite foreigners to teach. It does apply especially to the private sector and those desperate private language schools.
Teach and Travel or Travel and Teach

cheers and beers to all hard working FTs in China |
