a poultry sum, at least not when you consider the cramped conditions, the foul environment,

This is lifted from a reply by 11:59 to one of your previous posts!
I expected him to continue his 'pun' if that is what he intended and spell fowl incorrectly too! I suppose he was talking about the wages being chicken feel!

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!

Since my name -- or an approximation of it -- has been mentioned, I'll add a couple of comments.

I enjoyed 11:59's comments. I've spent only a little time in HKG, but found it one of the noisiest places on earth. Shenzhen seemed not so bad to me, but Guangzhou is worse. I do think the Chinese must be, as 11:59 suggests, as deaf as they are near-sighted. I don't understand dear Johnco's being fussed about these observations. Wasn't he the one who complained about the noise in the first place?

I'm not sure who Johnco means by "Victorian novelists". Jan Morris is a contemporary and very entertaining travel writer. Let those who can read do so.

And finally, about the spelling... Johnco is obviously one of those who doesn't believe that an English teacher should be "carefull" of his spelling. Ah yes. Spelling doesn't matter. What's important is the ability to express oneself. Rolling Eyes I'm sure he should be able to find some "freinds" who agree.

Meanwhile, some advice to all coming to China...bring earplugs! Surely even Johnco wouldn't disagree?! Laughing

Do you like listening to the clattering of trains;and metal on metal grinding until your ears and head say,"I can bare this no longer!"

Mind you, this happens every five to ten minutes,7 days a week, from 6 am to 12 midnight.

Seriously... and apart from that... would you care to share your experience teaching for VTC? I am curious since, as you remember from the other thread, I didn't get an offer from them and am wondering what I missed.

Are your shared living quarters OK, other than the noise? Are you far from the school where you teach? If you knew when you accepted the offer what you know now, would you still do so?
