'' I've just had a young Brit tell me my English was poor, and we were too short handed for me to fire him on the spot.Idid, however, point out that
the quality of writing in both the Cambridge texts and the IELTS (sic)
examination books is frequently flawed and inferior".
This is what the 'Director of Studies' stated in writing. |

| In that position I would have fired him anyway. Being cheeky to the head is not allowed. |

My information is that they are still there and that the Halwer Monkey is their mouthpiece.
The 'Director of Studies' is only a mere effigy. |

| If the terrible twins are still there, new students - and teachers - are in for a rough ride! I also hear that the university policy has changed. The first teachers to leave, including myself, were given a flight, even though they'd only lasted a few months. Now you have to pay for it yourself. The university is evidently "under new management". |

| This is my last message in David's cafe. I hope I've said enough comments about the university of Kurdistan. The teachers don't treat their students fairly. I even overheard the terrible twins say there was something "psychologicaly wrong" with me because I was studying so hard but not doing very well. They don't understand why the students hate them. They are very short of teachers now and the recruiters are telling the ones who apply lotss of untruths to make you to work with them. If you are going to teach there, you will have to put up with very arrogant colleagues. I am going to study at the univesity in sulimani in Kurdistan. I hope it will be better there. |

I believe he is a 'stuident'.His litany of sorrow seems depressingly similar to complaints I heard from many students there.
His tone of rueful acquiescence is very distinctive. |

As for other unfortunates touched by Kurdistan I hear that he who upset many during his short stay in Kurdistan is now headed to 'Cabool' as he calls it.
Is this wise ? |

They say Kabul is the new Klondike.I wish this person well.At least he will be spared the malevolent scrutiny of the Director of Studies' thought police and their monkey.
Good luck to him. |

I interviewed with Hawler for an instructors position. I felt that the interview had gone well, but I received a rejection notice. So, I accepted an offer from Kuwait, and was very happy to put Saudi behind me. I have contacted Hawler and inquired as to why I was not considered for the position, but they didnt respond to my inquiry.
Does anyone have any ideas why I was rejected?
I had mentioned to them that my husband is a Kurd from Turkey. I also told the interviewer that I was leaving Saudi in mid contract. Maybe the salary would have been quite a bit less than Kuwait or Saudi. I never asked about the salary in Hawler. Is a Masters and eight years experience in the Middle East too good for Hawler? Is being married a problem in Erbil? Was I too idealistic to say that I wanted to learn Kurdish? Yes, I know there are differences in dialects. Is there latent distrust of Kurds from Turkey in the Northern Regions? I am very happy in Kuwait at present, yet I was eager to do something politically correct and teach in Kurdistan. |

We would just be guessing, but it could have been your breaking your contract (though I have found most employers don't really care all that much), but perhaps they have had many teachers bail out on them in the past couple years and they fear another.
Or it could be Kurdish politics...

It is probably not wise to have a Turkish Kurd or his wife associated with the university. Especially now that Turkey seems to be breathing down the borders of Iraq.
Maybe the fact that I stayed in Saudi for only one year was another reason, but actually that is quite an accomplishment, considering the lifestyle of Saudi. |

| Are we allowed to ask how much Hawler offers an instructor with a Masters, Teacher Certificates from the US, and over 10 years of experience? I know, why didn't I ask? In the interview I was focusing on the opportunity of working in Kurdistan and being immersed in the language and culture. |
