I think Queen of Sheba was right, to a certain extend, when she described the English teachers in the ME as 'blue-collar', and this is the explanation:

"Some distinctive elements of blue-collar work are the lesser requirements for formal academic education which is needed to succeed in other types of work, with many blue collar jobs requiring only a High School Diploma or GED. [4] Blue-collar work typically is hourly wage-labor. Usually, the pay for such occupation is lower than that of the white-collar worker, although higher than many entry-level service occupations. Sometimes the work conditions can be strenuous or hazardous." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue-collar_worker

At least 'bue-collar' worker is much better and more respectful than a 'black collar' worker! At least in some cultures! Laughing

BTW, VS, Van is not a 'trash' , even if he looks like a new hippy in the avator, but still he is a human being with dignity, and has the right for the Oxygen of this earth! Laughing

How charming. Is it really so commonly used? I find it hard to believe. Do the "trash" take it on the chin, with good humour?

Horrible? No worse than many of the terms we see here referring to various managements, fellow teachers, students, etc...
Well it's OK then. Everyone's doing it.

I don't like it the idea that it's a common term in the US and I certainly can't understand why you chose to use it here in this context. Perhaps it's a cultural thing?

Perhaps so... test the photo on a nearby American or two... if they are over 35, I would expect that it would be one of their first thoughts. I expect that your 'homeland' has its own loving term for the type.

Well, yes... that fellow's bare midriff is quite tantalizing for you poor deprived souls over there. The missus does appear to be borderline anorexic though.

But... I should think that even your sad situation has not led you to lust after those of us knocking at the door of 60... no matter how well-preserved we may be Cool I doubt many would describe me as "eye-candy" anymore.

You mean it's not only your sentiments that are better veiled?

BTW... Your lack of reading skills are showing again 007... not only in your obvious inability to understand your own post on what "blue collar" means....

Nowhere did I call VN 'a trash.' [sic] The discussion is of an avatar, not a person. Nor do you apparently have any understanding of what a 'hippy' is or was. The pair are obviously NOT hippies. Laughing

And SJ...

a veil can be very useful to cover all sorts of flaws. More men should wear them.

"Excuse me? What a horrible thing to say. Calling any group of people "trash" is as bad as using a racial slur. Very disappointing VS" Quote from Van.

VS, the hippy which I mean is different from the one you are familiar with!
My understanding of a hippy is a person who is comfortable with himself/herself that he/she does not hold judgements against anyone else.
A true hippy does not categorise himself/herself by the way he/she dresses but by the way he/she acts.
VS, I reiterate for the 1000000 times that you and me need a special dictionary to understand each other, but, unfortunately, this dictionary does not, and will not exist! Laughing

No - it's just that your understanding of the subtleties of the English language is inadequate, as you prove time and time again.

I did not say an English dictionary, I said a special dictionary, and this dictionary is not about the subtleties of the English language, it is about the subtleties and tips of different cultures!
Unfortunately, this special dictionary does not exist yet?

Honestly, Abba, you really should just preserve whatever dignity you have left on this board and give the whole thing up....
