I have to say that 'Turkce Ogreniyoruz' is pretty student friendly, and usable for self-study. Not that I used it myself, but I did appraise it for a Turkish course at my University.

There is a book called Teach Yourself Turkish and it has two levels. They are a good introduction. If you don't want to shell out the cash for the courses at Tomer, you can buy their books and try to work from them at home. I would recommend a couple of privates to get you started with the alphabet, vowel pronunciation, vowel harmony and the concept of agglutination . After that try to find situations to talk....why should you sit in a class for 4 hours a day 5 days a week to have all the grammar pounded into your head. Spend the money on a T.V. and watch Turkish TV. Turkish is around you 24/7, take advantage of it.
