As others have said, there are a lot of life experience degrees out there and while they claim to be accredited in reality they are accredited by agencies of their own creation. If you pass on the name to us, we will let you know if it's worthwhile.

Using a diploma mill degree will at best get you laughed at by those in the know or at the worst get you tossed in jail for using a fraudulent degree.

There are two accredited universities in the states that offer life experience, Charter Oak and another one in New Jersey. That's it.

My wife, a Malaysian national, did an accredited degree through Excelsior College (formerly Regent College, part of the State University of New York system). You can take their online courses or you can pass your way through it by just taking exams, although the latter are not easy. She did her studies independently, choosing her own books, made a few missteps along the way (having to re-take a couple of exams) and finally got her degree within about 3 years or less. It has helped her as much as a regular residential degree and now she is doing extremely well in the business sector in the U.S.

This is turning into an alumni meeting! Killjoy and I both have degrees from Excelsior. I self-studied for all of my exams, typically reading one of the recommended textbooks cover to cover. I did end up with a couple B's but if you have good study skills then it certainly isn't bad for a native speaker.

I'm personally very impressed when someone obtains a college degree that is taught in a second language...the difficulty of performing at the college level can't be overstated.

Kew-wl! Yes...I can imagine myself trying to do a self-study degree such as Excelsior's in a second language such as French or German--let alone one with a different writing system. But then, I majored in journalism at my traditional college because I loved the English language and writing in it...so getting a degree in a second language would never happen anyway.
