Maybe they heard that rumor about that extra long "snake" that the African male is supposed to carry dangling in a specific place...
And they are afraid it might wind up in the place they poo. |

| Maybe they saw "Blood diamond", listened to hip-hop lyrics, know the rate of incarceration of the black populace in the U.S., or history of the African continent in general. Still trying to conclude whether or not I am happy that they hire "my" kind..... |

Jeff,
What was the guys name? Was it something like LaFontaine de Whitney?
Or more low brow like Earl Brown.
And unless you see his pic, how do you know he is Black? Not every Leroy
Smith is black.
Anyway, I'm not sure about the names of black males. Now the girls are easier to identify. Any name that starts with "La"-- good chance of being black. Names like LaPhoenixca, LaToyisha, LaTamika, LaHooriqa.
What about the guys name? How did you peg him as being black? (Not that there's anything wrong with that) |

As fond as I am of many of my students, I do find their attitude to black skin to be a disapointment.
Im showing them A4 pictures of various people this week for them to describe them, and one is of a 5 year old orphan I met in Kenya. Beautiful, delightful brave little girl, who I was honoured to have befriended...as soon as they see her picture...."UGLY!"....they say in unison.
Im sure it will change in time...as soon as schools have the courage to hire black teachers.
We did have a very dark skinned Bangladeshi teaching here before....and to be fair to the kids, they loved him.....I guess it is a fear of the unknown |

I mentioned I grew up in New York City... Lot's of non-whites there.
Personally have no problem in working with a smart educated black man (or woman)... Would rather work and hang with him then some dumb white trash redneck... |

Jeff, You were lucky, having experienced camraderie on the job with smart, educated blacks.
I worked with a few, but they were generally not American born blacks, but immigrants from African countries. These people were a pleasure to work with.
On the other hand, supposed smart, educated American born blacks were often nightmares in the work place. Being smart or educated does not mean the person has a suitable personality to work in stressful environments.
Accident prone, divisive, uncertain in leadership are terms that come to mind. Not always. But often enough that I would prefer to avoid them. Sure, there are lots of other people with the same qualities, but as Jesse Jackson supposedly said, "If I hear footsteps behind me at night, I hope it's a white man."
Political correctness often foisted incompetent blacks on others in the name of diversity. Certainly not a credit to the blacks who are competent. People who got where they were because of affirmative action were painfully obvious, and lots of others suffered because of it.

Jessie Jackson's favorite quotes are: "Give the Rainbow coalation money or we will sue you..." and "Tawany Brawley would never make this up..." |

Sorry to say in asia when companies hire native english teachers, preference is for white male/females which almost always comes higher than qualifications.
Why do you think so many places tell you your unsuccessful but don't actually give you a proper reason why they don't want you.
Most just say: 'someone more qualified'
Lot of bs if you ask me. |
