| Come to Harbin Joe and say it to my face. If you have that attitude maybe you should not be in China Teaching. This is my second trip to china and have been teaching for 2 years mainly in Chongqing. Yes, I'd love to take the time to study for a degree, but as we all know it takes time and money. In the future I will pursue that avenue but at the moment I have a family to take care of and find a better city for me and my wife to settle down. I posted on this form asking for suggestions and advice, not abuse. |

But I'm afraid abuse has become ingrained into the China TEFL business.
-employers who are so often so abusive with regard to decent employment conditions.
-students who often are abused by an educational system that seems to over work many of them into robotic classroom zombie type figures.
And all of this seems to be topped off in our particular teaching niche by -
-an abusive disregard to anything that resembles real qualification - that is as long as you look like being qualified!!!
So why get so surprised when you meet abuse here - after all it seems part and parcel for the job |

| how long have you been here 'joe's garage' what were you a mechanic in a former life? what's with the negativity? you got a chip on your shoulder already? you won't last.People who reply to other's questions here have experience with living and working in China. That's the only requirement. If you don't have anything usefull to say then don't bother. |

I think the only thing Joe doesn't last at is being a poster here - I have feeling we've met him many times before - under different (banned) ID's.
As for the teaching - gotta feeling he has several years under his belt - and has lasted by having the abilty to release his China pressure valve in places like Dave's (and not the classroom).
But the once again I'll put my best eating hat on the table in preparation for being wrong |

| I don't think you'll need to be eating that hat! I'm just as sure as you that "Joe's Garage" (???) is yet another previous poster coming on to stir up trouble and bother the mods to (yet again) ban him/her - - so he/she can come back under yet another name ad nauseum. I can't remember, when you join Dave's don't you have to list your email? How many different emails can one person have (or, for that matter, WANT to have!)? I mean, if I'm remembering correctly (and maybe I'm not), regardless of the new ID, wouldn't the email listed be a giveaway? And if someone is going to all that trouble to open unused email addresses first, then think of a new name and password to join here only to abuse for a week or two . . . . well, that person has more time on his/her hands than even I do!!!!! |

Mods, get rid of this spanner monkey (^) spewing abuse. This is a board for adults, not twats.
Joe, go to www.spanners&nuts.com - discuss lubricants and tyre rubber.
OP wants advice, not your vitriol. |

And why should those interested in mechanics be less adult and mature than teachers - looks like Baasbabelass is the someone who also needs a lesson on maturity!!!
Baas - if you're going to be abusive - then why not focus some of that abuse on a system that lets any white Tom, Dik and Harry get into the Chinese classroom under the auspices of being able to teach English - now giving a bit of abuse in that direction you may actually be making a statement that has something to do with improving Chinese education
Actually the advice given on getting a degree was pretty good - even though the way it was given was a bit on the brusk side |

Joe's garage is only a little bitter 'cause he missed "Wet t-shirt Night", right? Or perhaps he's only taking out his anger on some here because he's tired of crying out "why does it hurt when I pee?", and wants to find another way to express his discomfort.
(Is my Zappa lore correct here? It's been some years) |

What is 'China Teaching'? Is that the name of a new country or something? Why have you capitalized the 't' in 'teaching'? Haven't you got to the episode of Sesame Street where they teach you the difference between big daddy grown up letters and little mummy letters yet? And do you mean 'teaching in China'?

Do you mean you have mainly been teaching for two years or you have mainly been teaching in Chongqing for two years? It seems you have problems expressing yourself in articulate language. That's the problem with the Internet, isn't it? You can't just grunt and point.

Perhaps if you stopped flitting back and forth between NZ and Chongqing and spent less time seeking advice from strangers on forums you would have the time to equip yourself with a degree, the most basic of qualifications for teachers in China. Students here deserve better.

A family to take care of? How can a degree-less idiot like you claim to be taking care of a family? What sort of role model could you ever be to a kid? Who wants a degree-less loser as a husband or father? What sort of future can you offer a family?

And perhaps you want a rose garden and a gold-plated Rolls Royce, too, but what do I care? I have given you a suggestion: Go and get a degree. I've also given you some sound advice: Go and get a degree. It's not abuse; it's the truth. It just so happens that the truth often hurts and that you are simply not man enough to take it. |

Ah yes, the internet.
It does have its problems as Joe points out.
It does however reveal the grunters and pointers* as easily as their natural prey.
Nah Joe, you know you wouldn't "normally" stand up to one of them.
And the satisfaction you get facing them down here must be a rather pale substitution.
I feel your pain and frustration.

I haven't worked there myself, but Dalian and Qingdao both get very good press as places to live.
Here's a site with lots of Qingdao stuff.
