I'm studying Chinese (RMB8000 for approx. 16 weeks, Mon to Fri, 8.20 to 11.55 minus 45 minutes worth of breaks).
One of my Chinese teachers frequently ends the lessons early, but she doesn't leave the classroom, she simply sits at her desk and says if anyone has questions they should approach her desk to ask them, (well, I think or guess that that's what she says because she speaks in Chinese and my Chinese is hai cha de yuan ne!).
Perhaps there is one rule for some EFLers of Chinese students and a different rule for some Chinese teachers of international students.

Mate -they did what! There doesn't appear to be any joke here does there. Khermit and E-Gas had very relevant comments here. And MT
could be close!!
I spoke to or Dean the other day and he knows about your change in direction.
What about this proof reading bit - you did for nicks !! - b.loody crazy!!
150 is on the mark - I did one before the Summer break on Distance Ed
in China and charged the Prof. 1250Y for about 7 hours proof reading.
I also want to relate some experience from the last week.
5 students from my 3rd year Business Report Writing class came 20 mins before my class and said they couldn't come to class today cause they had 'party meetings' and I thundered back to them,
'BU XING!' ( no way! )
You see their interim reports are due after the National Hol. break and I needed to give them vital info. to complete them. They all said I had to give them note or they'd get into trouble!!
I said , " no problem", all the time thinking -
The party boys'll be p i s s e d - o f f !!!
Anyway they all came to that afternoon lecture and I had them for 15 minutes. Strange how all the class suddenly had to go to this partymeeting too. .......and I told them if there was any problem with their Chinese teacher for being late - he could contact me!
Well...........He never got to me and I left 90 minutes early Minhang - got paid for 2 hours too!
BTW - there was one lonely sod who wasn't going to go but I told him to read my notes and have a good afternoon!!

Hey, you're still there. I've been doing some writing avoiding teaching since last June. Anyway, I say, watch yourself. When I had been at TDMPS in Qingpu for 15 mos. this type of thing started happening. Just enough excuse for the few students

to give a reason to the 'powers that were' to go for a new FE.
As you know, already ( I think), I now know from experience.
Still owe you a brew, I think.

Actually, Davis, the real Fear and Loathing (above the usual daily background dose) was in Yantai. Ugh.
"F&L in SH" is a nice idea with 2 fatal flaws:
1) "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" showed that no matter how many drugs they took, no matter how twisted and depraved they became, the "real, average people" were still weirder and worse. In China there's no need to show this.
2) It's too hard here to find the really interesting drugs such a project would require.

I've got the ether and amyl nitrate. You need a red convertible.

The red convertible is a go. Ether and amyls are a good start but I'm not hearing anything about hallucinogens. Oh, well, who the hell would know the difference in this country?
