I have worked with several people from the US in the call-centres there. The reason they got jobs was, cause they were married to locals and therefore had the permits.
That's why I said that the real problem will be getting the permit. Apart from that Amsterdam has a massive housing shortage...

Amsterdam is possibly the most likable city on the planet (though I heard Vienna got 'most livable' recently in some prestigious survey).

I think going to work there is a GREAT idea!

- Chuckle, chuckle -

Did every single visitor backpacking through "the Flying Pig" not consider just tossing it all and staying?

I hope other nations take liner-notes on how to run a tolerant and productive township from Amsterdam. There are ridiculous elements to every place, but Amsterdam is like a hot-tub that everyone can fit in . . .

just be a tourist, bring a visa, and don't expect to support yourself there. It, like much of Europe, can be restrictive and picky unless you were unlucky enough to be part of their colonies . . . then it will be a haven, if limited in wlecome.

West Europe is a great area but totally difficult to work within for a U.S. citizen. Similarly, the U.S. can be difficult for West Europeans to work within.

Especially if your greatest qualification is that you were born in a certain place. It can be very useful in certain circumstances, but nothing speaks like credentials. Except, of course, money. Money says volumes! (if hollowly . . .)

Smile good synopsis, Cbad. it is a magical city, too bad more people can't enjoy it. my sister converted to Dutch citizen, from US. she's been there 10 years, but way up north in Sneek. that's an entirely different country up there.

and forget about teaching science, math, biology, there....you might get in as English Lit or something, or English Comp -- but probably only Irish / British....the Dutch are big fans of the Irish --- goes back to the 17th century when all the Irish came over and Holland was the richest nation in the world.
