Do you mean staying at the office a long time versus actually doing work?
Sorry, at least in the industry where I work, I don't see it. I teach usually a 90 minute class or more, put things on the board prior to class, etc. I see some Japanese colleagues still in the break room 10 minutes into the start of their class! When I see things like this, I don't wonder why the work ethic here is disappearing.
Granted of course, not all of my Japanese coworkers are that lazy, but there do seem to be more of the mentioned type than amongst the other nationality groups. Some of them do start the classes late and finish late (some also start late and finish early ). Though I suppose it could be an issue of the industry, where the people we teach are sometimes happier when a class is cancelled or if it is easier than if anything is 'really' learned. |
