Openly racist:

Candidates should be from the following countries only: Europe, US, South Africa, Far East Asia, Philippines, India.

Haha, no I am not worried about Canadians, but now that you mention it, isn't it stupid?

Sometimes employers say, for example, "US/UK only", and then they explain that they are only able to get visas for those nationalities. Fair enough.

But in this stupid Bahwan's case, it doesn't make sense that they can get visas for Europeans, Americans, and South Africans, but not for Canadians or Australians!!! And it also doesn't make sense that they can get visas for Indians but not Pakistanis. And so on.

Obviously, that indicates that some imbecile is deciding on or writing up these ads.

They can go to hell Evil or Very Mad

Sorry for my tone, but I am a little miffed at this... not at you, VS Wink

It's possible they only have visas for certain countries. In Saudi the system is you get a block visa for a particular country and can hire as many people as it allows for that country. No way could you transfer an Australian visa to an American one.

The second possibility is that there is a quota system for the whole set of schools to ensure diversity. So they could only hire the nationalities of those that have left.

The third could be that they don't have interview recruitment systems available in every country. That they can interview in India for example, but not Pakistan.

I think the block visa thing is a purely Saudi concept as I never heard of it in the UAE or Oman. The decision of which nationality to hire seems to come directly from the employer (hiring based on curriculum, American vs British) and it may be included in their original contract (for instance the infamous MLI in the UAE was originally told by the military to only hire American males - and it took AMIDEAST a few years to convince them to hire both other nationalities and women - then they lost the contract and the place sank into the sands...)

Bahwan is a strongly Indian connected company, so you may be right about not having interview possibilities in Pakistan. I suspect that it is Bahwan's decision rather than coming from the Omani government. Another example of the 'mysterious' Middle East...

With the Saudi Visa system, the visa can be transferred from a country to another one. I knew a case where a candidate in UK, his visa was sent my mistake to a different country (within a block visa), then his employer transferred his visa to the Saudi Embassy in London.

I know a candidate who was not a national of any country mentioned above, and he got a telephone interview with Bahwan in another country (not India). But he declined their offer, the contract was an insult in the proper sense of the word.
