yes, I'd like to do something in my field and thought abt peace corps but their offerings in the mideast are limited and it is a 2 yr+ commitment. I'm can only defer the grad program for a yr and have been looking into WHO openings, but again they're limited to mostly Europe and Africa. I suppose another option would be teaching in Egypt or Amman for a yr while doing an unpaid internship with UNWRA or something on the side. Agreed, most volunteer programs are costly (and short term) and I've already done these types of programs in africa and yemen... I have plenty of student loans and will need need something that pays if I am going to take this yr off from school.
thanks for the VSO tip though, I'll look into it. I think Turkey would be incredible before locking myself up in this academic bubble for another 4 yrs |

| VSO also only offers 2 year programmes. If you need to earn money to pay for taking a year off, teaching English might be your best option. It doesn't pay a fortune but there are plenty of people who have less qualifications than you have and they managed to find something. |
