A really good indonesian move is
Daun di atas bantal... if you havent already seen it
about homeless kids in Jogjakarta. REALLY GOOD DRAMA MOVIE.. the main actor is Christine Hakim..
It won her a few awards, it has been on Tv a few times in Australia also on the SBS channel (show's a lot of foreign movies)
see if you can find it. |

Anyone think their high level Indo language skills have ever done em any favours? I mean aside from the obvious benefit of being able to communicate with local people that is.
I guess I mean financially....Has it ever helped get that job...or opened up other opportunities?
Cheers folks |

Not really. They look at you with mirth and humour for trying to speak like them but laugh if you don't quite get it right. But at the end of the day we are still bules and as such subject to paying bule prices. Learning what the locals pay is much more advantageous than learning the lingo. |

thanks magpie..
Well yeah sure, if i moved to jakarta i would definately have local friends arrrange things as much as possible.
Eventhough I said 'financially' I didn't really mean does it SAVE you money... more does it give you any kind of edge when it comes to making any.
A couple of posters here said that they had studied bahasa Indo at Uni for years and obviously have a good level of fluency. But it seems that they have had to do their stint somewhere like EF just the same...
Good luck people |
