I will arrive in SLP tomorrow afternoon...i am extremely excited, but at the same time i'm going there with an open mind - i'm not expecting luxury or anything - it is a 3rd world country after all....

How's immigration at SLP???? I'm going in as tourist... any advice or tips?

Thanks a lot in advance...

Ask for 180 days on your tourist card when you land in Mexico.

Hey Samantha,

Thanks for the quick response... are you currently in SLP teaching ENGLISH? If you are i'd love to meet up with you so I can get some tips and tricks for living in SLP. Where are you from? 180 days on the tourist card? Why is that?

Sorry for all the questions, i'm just concerned and would love to get as much advice as i can...

Thanks again!

Definitely do this.

Immigration has actually got better in SLP. They used to be completely useless and inefficient, now they are just inefficient. Bring plenty of patience.

You need ask for 180 days because it will take you longer than "approximately a month" to get your work permit.

Che2007, you will regret asking for only a month, because it will then cost you money to extend it to what you could have had for no extra charge. You are PERMITTED to spend up to 180 days in Mexico as a tourist. You could say you visiting friends, studying Spanish, surfing. No, don't mention working. Ask for the maximum you can get because it will take time to get organized. Sometimes it takes months to get processed for a work permit. Sometimes jobs don't pan out. Save yourself some grief and take this advice.

Yes, do as the nice lady says! You'll save yourself a whole lot of stress. I came in with 90 days and no apostile and no actual job offer, it was hassle I didn't need.

You're coming to SLP - things happen s l o w, especially where any kind of red tape is involved. You don't want to end up doing the 'gringo dance' down at migracin.
