It's perfectly possible to speak a language and be illiterate in it which is what you would be if you decided to eschew kanji altogether. But, as others have suggested, you would be doing yourself a massive favour if you learnt hiragana as romanized Japanese is often quite counterintuitive for native English speakers.
By the way, it is romaji not romanji. |

| I misspelled it too. But the OP was referring to romanized Japanese, so I suppose we could be excused for our mistake. |
