I have just paid $675 for a complete physical at the American Hospital of Dubai (in preparation for my new job in a certain country outside the Middle East). My company--an oil co.--will reimburse.

I worked for Raytheon and then the Inst. for Public Admin in Saudi and got both physicals in the States but didn't have to pay for the Raytheon one. And for the second (IPA) physical, I went to my private doc in New Jersey who said most of it was nonsense and so he signed off on most of the stuff for me and just did a routine exam plus a blood test and that was about $75 (in 1994).

A friend of mine in Al Ghad says they're still on for 50 more schools next year. Anyone hear differently?

I heard it was 150. Can't imagine how they'd manage even 50 given so many still don't have their passports/visas organized from the start of the last term. They don't have the HR staff to ensure monthly pays are received on time now. And how could they when their staff keep walking?

mishmumkin was speaking about Al Ghad - so was I and I speak only about the facts as they are and continue to be. I'd have to agree with you Veiledsentiments. What is gained by being abusive?

Wannago... thank you. That is what is needed is the 'facts' as you know them. A vast improvement over merely insulting the other posters. For someone weeding through the details trying to decide if they dare apply, what is needed is information on past problems, but most important, are they being addressed with some hope of improvement.

Like all new programs, the first years are usually chaotic. I believe that this program is crucial for the UAE education system, so... is there hope that things are moving in the right direction?

HCT does the HR function of Alghad only if and when the work is passed on to them. It continues to be 'shoddy' because people did not have their Visas organized and consequently do not yet have their Passports back. Too bad for those who wanted to travel for the Holiday Season. As I said previously, monthly pays are still an issue, i.e., people don't get paid for up to 2 - 3 weeks after they should have been.

Many employed by HCT to work on the Alghad HR matters have come and gone - low pay and incompetency have been the reasons.

wannago is believing all that's said by those at the top who seek to 'deflame', but the facts remain - people have not received the promises made to them and I don't mean the realities they were made aware of at interview stage.
