Even in Hong Kong, RMB are of very limited use and must be converted into HK$ if you want to spend it. |
Obviously you have not been here for quite some time. Even highstreet supermarkets accept the Yuan now (though the exchange rate, of course, reflects the fact that the Yuan is the (controlled) currency of a developing state and the Hong Kong dollar is an international currency stemming from a developed state. |

But we have all been told, sorry, had it impressed upon us, that mainland China is "just like Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore". So, if this is true, why don't you spend it on all the great things on offer there......?
Why can't you just send ALL YOUR money home. It's YOUR money, isn't it......? Must be bad to have to work in a state where you can't even choose what YOU are going to do with YOUR money! (Hint: try telling your employers that you want your cash credited to your account in the west. Tell them that you are an adult, and that where you come from, there are no such constraints.) |

I don't know about yours but my contract specified that I could change thirty percent of my earnings into a foreign currency to take home. That was done.
There are enough things in China available at a good price that the rest should be easily absorbed.
If that's not enough, you can always change money for tourists and other visitors you meet. A friend changed thousands of RMB into dollars when a group came to China for a wedding. |

I just sent money home and it was very easy.
I told my school that I needed to convert RMB to USD. So some how, they had a friend at the bank of China. I brought my RMB and they converted it to USD, and didn't ask for any ID. And I could convert as much as a wanted.
THen I western unioned it home.
Another thing that I've heard is that any Chinese with a passport can convert RMB to Foreign money. SO if you have a CHinese friend with a passport, they could hepk you too. |
