Not the easy solution, not when you're first getting started out. I agree that if you're gonna make this a career, you should get a degree, but that's a personal belief.
A go-getter with good marketing skills could find himself running an institute, or teaching privates that pay well, or even training other teachers. |

I will probably finish my degree a few years from now, but at the moment I'm much more interested in getting work and life experience. Before going back to college I want to be sure that it's something absolutely necessary for quality employment --- and that I'm not just going through the motions, wasting my time and money.
As far as other languages, I would 'classify' myself as advanced in Italian and low intermediate in Spanish. If I traveled to South America to teach, I would consider going a few months before hiring season to take intensive Spanish lessons. |

getting a degree to go into ESL is quite possibly the most retarded thing I've ever heard. No one pursues this as a career, this is a job you fall/escape/run into. There is no job stability, there is NO pension, your DOS is usually a heavy drinker and unless you like shagging students you aren't about to impress any but the most gullible people back home.
