Reasons for staying (non-gender specific)

The seasons - can anyone say that this time of year is not perfect? Picking mushrooms in the forest, hiking up hills.

The architecture. Magnificent ryneks, buzzing with life in the summer evenings.

Turkish (sludge) coffee in a Wars bar hitting the spot whatever time of day or night.

Placek po Wegiersku (well it's Hungarian but the Poles have made it their own)

Zoladkowa (bitter herbs) vodka on a winter's evening.

The national parks (away from the dog poo and litter).

Zozole sherbert sweets

Kuba Wojewodzki (sp?)

to each their own, biffinbridge.

i'm sure i could come up with a number of things that are less than desirable about where you are currently living as well.

this is getting off-topic, but you have never experienced down-and-out, dirt-poor poverty if you don't know about the straws.

Drinking beer through a straw speeds the rate at which your body absorbs the alcohol. I believe it has something to do with pressure changes vaporizing small amounts of alcohol in the beer as it passes through the straw, which is then more rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream as a gaseous solution. I may be mixing my chemistry terms, for which I apologize.

You think it's cute; now you may look at it as a cheap buzz without many additional carbohydrates. Ever wonder how the girls stay skinnier than the guys? They get just as drunk on a fraction of the beer.

All of you rich kids pretending to be working class are disgusting.

oh stop it. girls stay thin in poland solely because of their method of drinking beer? what an awful theory.

for starters, after the bartender pours in that disgusting syrup concoction into their beer, it's got twice the amount of calories it originally had.

and yes, this is off topic.

My two pennethworth,

a) European Special Economic Zones, massive inward investment.
b) Mostly, motivated and intelligent students.
c) Central, geographically, for European travel.
d) Massive future potential, economically and culturally.
e) Easy for us Brits to see family and friends back home.
f) Mature teaching infrastructure for training and conferences.
g) Cheap to start something up.

Notice no childish comments about girls or beer.

You've got me thinking. I know why I went to Poland in 1991 (curiosity, mostly) but now I'm going back and as it's not girls, start-up ops or beer (well, a bit of beer)... I'm sort of wondering.
