7 days!

Someone in my building was doing renovations and they broke a pipe. Our whole row had no water.

It took me a few days to actually complain about it as my water had gone off for 2 days before and eventually did come back on so I thought it was normal... I'm pretty sure threats were eventually made regarding contacting the media. I bought bottled water, bathed out of a bucket, used public toilets... Don't get me wrong, it sucked... but it was no worse than, say, winter camping. Very Happy

In 2005 I kept having the water going out due to construction projects that would over-pressure the ancient water mains and blow some pipes out.

The longest was 1 week, I think. What I ended up doing was taking showers at the gym I had a membership with. You can find paid shower areas too as many have no shower or private bathrooms in some of the older apartment complexes.

If you go to these places my suggestion is shower in some type of clothing (bathing suit shorts) and wear shower shoes as some of these places ahem.. are dirty looking.

I would ask the school to help you find a reputable place to take a shower at. Some of these places are rip-off prostitution joints.

You are expected to pay for some extra "service" regardless if you just take a shower. Sometimes they will hide it in a towel fee, and demand some ridiculous price , others will try to charge you even if your refuse the girl they try to bring you. Thus, stay away .. from them.

You can do the military way, a bucket, a bar of soap, a rag and a towel bath. For your hair just stick your head in the bucket. This sounds crude but as my other fellow teacher above stated, it's the Army way.

(When I was in the military we would often go for +2 weeks without a real bath)

Seems to be the norm for male Chinese university students to go entire semesters without considering any acts of hygiene -- I've seen more than a few this semester go to class (not mine) in sweat-soaked clothing with pen behind ear and basketball tucked under arm.

Would love to do group work with them stars of the court!
