Have you thought about staying just 2 months more in the US, until Aug, and then going to do the CELTA?? |
Yeah, I've thought about it! It's just that my lease ends in April... :-/
I'll probably go to Russia for a month beforehand, but that doesn't buy me that much time. |

....yes, hard to say. seems like you should try and wait 2 months here in the US until Aug, and then start the CELTA. don't forget, the US$-Euro exchange rate isn't very good right now. so any travelling you do beforehand, will be more expensive than going to a RedSox game.
on the other hand, having the CELTA in your hand by June 15 is beneficial in the sense that you can "scout" out the place. learn the streets, markets, unis, apartments, contacts, friends, etc. but like Spirl78 said, the classes really don't start until about Sept 10 or so. so, you're talking about 12 weeks. then again, i know i could burn 12 weeks of summer days in Europe. |

So, it looks like I'll just find a way to stay in the US for an extra 2 months. I will not, however, be attending any Red Sox games
There's actually a CELTA program in Brno starting July 7th. That seems like a fitting option, seeing as how I'd rather find employment there afterwards... although I'm sure there are less opportunities than in Prague. |

....sounds like a good idea. but, also check other sites / countries with the CELTA program. some other places might have better, longer reputations as CELTA schools. e.g., Madrid, London, etc. |

While there are FEWER jobs in Brno, there are also fewer applicants for them - your job search should be approximately equivalent.
CELTA in Brno is a reasonable choice if you want to work in the Czech Rep - your practice teaching students will be more representative of students you'll be working with when you start than if you take the course in London or Madrid. And the CELTA centre in Brno will have local contacts that can be useful when you search for jobs/housing later on as well. |

....yes, Spiral i suppose you're right. if i were in his shoes, i probably would take the CELTA up there. it's not like it's a $20,000 course....a CELTA is a CELTA, more or less. there might be some variance between countries, but being able to "scout out" the area while you are there will be very beneficial. plus, you can probably find roommates easier in the summer, when people are looking for some extra cash to pay the rent. |
