Thanks, people, for the down-to-earth advice!

To complicate matters, I have just heard of a great job in Hanoi, but they really want someone for 12 months! I'm going to try to get a shorter term! I went to Hanoi in November 07, and enjoyed it! So perhaps serendipity is at work!

In my opinion Anda is right on the money regarding this point; it can be tremendously difficult to be the person who is always being stared at, talked about, etc. Expat life in a rural community takes a lot of patience and a genuine desire to be there.

I am in Hong Kong, not exactly a small rural town, and I sometimes get a bit tired of people following me around the supermarket to see what the foreigner (me) is buying. Laughing

Where I'm at they will physically go through my supermarket trolley and to top it off do the same if I have a big open bag on the way home here and there.

The last week I have a funny thing happen! I got talking with a young 20 year old girl on a country bus and we exchanged phone numbers. She rang me up and told me off for not ringing her. She now wants me to come to here school in another city and give a demo lesson to her class. She also has put in an order for a computer for her birthday. She's really slow huh?
