According to , http://www.j2fi.net/2007/10/26/its-official-nova-shuts-down/ the Canadian embassy seems to be saying that they will help people get in contact with people in Canada (probably by giving them the international prefix for the telephone number). So really a whole lot of nothing.

About as surprising as the idea that it may be colder in the north of Canada than the south of Japan this winter.

Actually that's inaccurate. The Canadian Embassy is offering cheap flights at nearly 1/4 of the cost they are listed as online and elsewhere. As a registered member I received an email from the embassy with reassuring words that they would indeed help NOVA staff through this time of crisis, especially if it means last minute flights home.

excerpt regarding flights from the email:

Maybe I'm missing something but those numbers are NOT 1/4 of the price that you will find online. Unless of course a trip to Canada now costs 400,000 yen.

I said nearly a quarter. And all the prices that we found were 200,000 to 300,000 (Which I should have stated beforehand). Online that is, and with the only two companies I know of that provide air service from Japan to Canada (which is two ). So if memory serves me correctly 50,000 is a quarter of 200,000... thus it would make sense for someone to state that 64,000 is NEARLY a quarter of the prices I found online, however I understand that by stating "nearly" I am suggesting they are slightly less then a quarter.. Neutral

Sigh.. petty math aside. I was only trying to state that the Embassy was doing their best.. and seriously that was the heart of my post.. not.. math?

If anyone has some sound advice regarding airfare and other airline companies flying to and from Canada with better prices then those offered by the Canadian Embassy, I would appreciate the assistance.

If you can read some Japanese, try this site:

http://www.ab-road.net/tyo/

We got a flight to Vancouver leaving the 19th of December for 62,000 yen from AICE (of course there was another 28,000 yen on top of that for taxes and fuel surcharge, but that would be the case for any advertised price). This was a month ago, though, so I don't know if those fares are still available. Definately do not just depend on HIS or Number 1 travel - they don't always have the best deals. It's really low season now for going to Canada so you should be able to find something for under 100,000.

Hi again,

Even though I just said not to depend on No. 1 travel here is a link, in English, to their current advertised prices to Vancouver. Pretty cheap!
