What exciting news, John! Of course I'll support your cause. My out-of-state 3rd-party postdated check will go in the mail tomorrow.

All this talk about changing leaders got me thinking...Tony Blair seems to have had a nasty scare about his ticker...scot47 is looking to change jobs...maybe there's something opening up for him on Downing Street. I'm just not sure if his sudden desire to become "touchy feely" is an asset or a liability. Depends on what kind of voter you're sampling, I guess.

I definitely think you should go judging by the tenor of your posts.

Things have a habit of working themselves out.

There may well be an uncomfortable period BUT you can always come back if you are unable to survive in the real world.

Human beings are eminently adaptable!

When I left my first job here in 1972 I thought I would never see KSA again. I have been back three times since then. The job I have now is the best I have had.

What worries me is that I will say "NEVER AGAIN" and then creep back in a year or two. Maybe I need to start a daily programme of abstinence like in AA.

"My name is..........and I am a TEFL teacher who used to work in Saudi. By the grace of God I have not taught in Saudi today...................."

Is there a rehab clinic for people like me ? I need to learn how to live without that huge monthly dose of tax-free income.

An ominous warning indeed.

Hi my name is Nomad and I am a Saudi addict.
I have been Saudi free since January of 2002.
Since that time I have watched my large savings shrivel as I exist hand-to-mouth in a large urban environment in the US. I have been a victim of petty crime several times and I have to pay for EVERYthing..cable, gas, water, cell....
My income is meager by most any standard but is really small compared to what I was making as a lowly contractor in the Kingdom.
I really think it sucks here in many ways.
I am on the verge of a relapse.
Help....I want more Sandland

Thanks for sharing.

I'm ohman. I can relate to everything you said Nomad. It's what I needed to hear.

Many of us have exclaimed, "What an ordeal! When am I out again?"

Remember that we deal with a tax-free income: cunning, baffling, powerful!

Dear ohman,

" Many of us have exclaimed, "What an ordeal! "

" Remember that we deal with a tax-free income: cunning, baffling, powerful! "

Hmm, are you by any chance a " friend of BIll "? You seen to have a rather detailed knowledge of the " ritual ".
Regards.
John

Chapter 1

TEFLer's Story

War fever ran high in the large desert country to which we new, young teachers from the West were assigned, and we were flattered when the first citizens took us to their language centres. Here was excitement, cash, TEFL; moments sublime with intervals hilarious....

. . .I was paying down my student loans at last, and in the midst of the financial security, I discovered off shore accounts. . .
