| Sichuan is nice. Good food, pretty girls, better/cleaner baijiu, nice teas; yeah, beats the hell out of here. |

Yes, I think it tells you that there are a lot of smart-assed people posting on this board, and nothiing more than that.
If the departures lounge is so appealing to these people, they should use it and thus help the rest of us to stop wasting our time reading idiotic comments that help no one.
Good places depend on one's taste but Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, Kunming, Hong Kong, Zhu Hai, are well thought of generally. There are many others, too many to discuss in detail. You might be better to begin in a larger city and get to know the country a bit before you decide. I chose Shanghai and for me it was the best decision, but others will feel differently.......

Since living and working in China is far from everyone's "ideal cuppa-tea" - then I think its great that the departure lounge lovers get a chance to speak out. After all in this way we get a better chance to gauge an average FT's feelings after having a closer encounter with the living, breathing China. If we were just to spew out I love China garbage, then these threads would soon be a swamp of meaningless recruiter rhetoric, and don't we have more than enough of that through China job advertising |

I enjoyed Yangshou. Leshan Da Fu wasn't bad either. I liked my cruise down the Yangzte the best, though.
I'm looking forward to hitting Yunnan next. After that, I'd love to see Tibet and the Terracotta Warriors in Xian. Beyond that, I don't care. |

Of course its different strokes for different folk - but just traveling on the well worn China tourist trail - at least for me - can be a bit of a drudgery. Crowds, high admission prices, hawkers and all that shirt pulling and ear tugging in those attempts to make me spend, spend, spend.
For me - to make China a worth while destination and one where I can relax from that which at times drives me near insane (mainly the pollution, noise and crowds) - I have to have sanctuaries where I can just chill out. And there is an alternative China - one that's green, clean and quiet. However to find these places you need to be able to travel - and to travel costs money!!! So make sure - if you want to mix working in China with some decent travel - that you bargain the best wage - other wise your China adventure may be condensed into just a few quick snaps at yet another bustling tourist site!!!!

| The departure lounge in beijing international airport is my favorite. |
Don't worry, not seriously, I am sure. The beijing airport SUCKS. truly mediocre food at gourmet prices. And only one eating centerWorthless junk gift shopa, buy the same stuff outside for what, 1/30th the price/
I make sure i arrive back in Newark, Honestly the best airport I've been to in my life. Everything is reasonably priced. Snickers bar beijing airport 12 RMB, Newark $1 Interesting gift shops (for an airport) and gastronomic delights from many different cultures all good, all reasonably priced. Draught beer watch espn. I could go on and on. Tye, I would never want to step foot outside the Newark airport, as Newark is a pit. But I always make sure I have a nice 3 hour layover in Newark before my hour flight back to my home city.
