I told my daughter I wanted a man for Christmas. All kidding asside, I'd like to visit with family. (But I'll wait for summmer, expensive ticket).
Other than this I feel I am truly blessed and have all that I need. |

I would like my employer to acknowledge that the 25th of December is indeed a holiday for foreign guest workers and we should have the day off wether we want it or not!
It would also be nice if the semi turkified co workers with Turkish partners could just do the right thing and take the friggin day off as well, instead of undermining our basic holiday rights. |

A boyfriend.
p.s. I also had to work on Christmas day. It wasn't exactly a joy, but I don't have family here to be with, so it doesn't really matter. Why do people move to a foreign country and expect it to be like home? |

| I've noticed that Christmas is less commercialised in other countries than the USA. I only had to work on Christmas in CHina though. We had a 14 hour day due to a Christmas party for the kids. |

| Without any family nearby, the only thing I did on Christmas was move my car so it wasn't parked in the wrong place today. I'd have liked working on Christmas. |

I take the point that some people would prefer the chance to work on that day, personally I have never done so,and never ,ever will. Sadly a small group think its date has little meaning or signifance, they should try being seperated from their families at special times like this and see if they feel the same .
I used to be very anti christmas esp the commercial aspect of it, however after not been able to enjoy with my family for over a decade your perspective changes. Some of the lucky ones at my place still managed to cop a week off, I would have dearly loved to have joined them. |

| My sympathies to all of you who had to work. The nice thing about being your own boss is being able to choose - and I chose to not work that day and take minor inconveniences of rescheduling involved (I'm going to run movies anyway). |

Well, I had to work on Christmas too, but it wasn't so bad. We had the 24th off, so mentally I just celebrated on the 24th. We had a nice dinner and gift exchange, and being at college the next day was OK because there weren't many students (they took an extended Eid holiday and now only have exams for the rest of the term), so it was fairly relaxed and we all seemed to be in good spirits.
Sure, I'd like to be back home with family and friends, but being 10 bajillion miles away in a country that doesn't celebrate Christmas isn't all that bad because those of us that do celebrate it sort of band together. I haven't been home for Christmas in a while but I've never been alone on Christmas either.

Christmas is a legal holiday of here in China, at least for laowai, foriegners. We get two days off

Coursebooks? Like textbooks? Your school actually provides coursebooks? Haven't seen one for two years.
Maybe Christmas here in China is not as commercialized as back in the States, but no spirituality is allowed. All that there is, is commercial. I cringe as I walk in the supermarket, all the employees (lets say at least 100 at the time, labour is cheap in China) were wearing their Santa Claus hats, and their Santa Claus jackets, which had Coca Cola printed on the back. And I think, out of the 100, probably only two or three have ever seen a bible.
Well, I would like to see blue skies and stars again as my present.
My Chinese wife wanted to go to the south of CHina, and travel on the famous Li Jiang River, and look at the stars on a riverboat. But the river has dried up. Poof! Vanished! But I have two months of vacation, so I will find that blue sky somewhere! |

On the China board I posted about this. Though I don't blame you for not spending a lot of time there. Much friendlier here. The SAFEA, Foreign Experts bureau, assigns two days off for Christmas, or if you are of a different religion, you have different days off.
Following the general tone of the Chinese board, I think I posted it as, "Don't be a scab! Take your days off!"
You'll probably get a PM from me soon. Now that I am married to a Chinese girl, I want to know what I reaaly should be doing as far as registering our marriage with the embassy? I remeber you had question about SS#? Any good threads? We are not planning on immigrating, but will be visiting next summer |

I don-t know about that. I think I registered my marriage because I changed my name so I had to get a different Social Sec Card. I tried to get my husband an ITIN for taxes, but they never sent it to me, it-s been a year. Have you tried to get a visa yet? I-m dreading that. |
