I teach a group of Chinese teachers twice a week. The Principal told me he wanted them just to get used to chatting and conversing in English, but if I could teach them a little about British culture he'd be happier.
When I asked them what topics they'd like to discuss I was met universally with blank stares! So, I told them if they could not decide we would be studying poetry and they would be required to write a poem, in English, in class.
They then came up with many different suggestions...seems Beckham and Bush are better alternatives to the Chinese mind than Dylan Thomas and William Shakespeare!
So...suggest poetry and the easier suggestions may flow.
