Loz,
I think the kids are either licking/kissing the tutles--remember these are kids. or Just not properly washing their hands after handling the turtles and before having some kid friendly finger food. |

The turtles, the kids or the parents?
Anyone know if ducks make good pets? Only $40 a throw... |

Our neighbour had one as a child, and to this day still talks about him fondly.
I dont (yet ) know. Ive been informed that I am not allowed to get one. |

| It must be something in the air! Lately I've been thinking about getting a little quacker for myself! Ducks are great, and it would give me an excuse to put a pond in the living room! |

Baby birds also carry salmonella, but apparently grow out of it, unlike turtles who seem can carry it on their body their whole lives. I guess it's an egg thing?? animals that hatch can have salmonella. But I know people who keep ducks and enjoy having them, and if you don't enjoy it you can always eat it. |

Hmm, sounds like a tasty treat. What would the Mexican version of duck a l'orange be? Pato en salsa de papaya? |

Sadly, being Easter time, there will be ducklings, and a lot of chicks purchased as pets, until people realize that they had no clue what they were doing, and discard them.
mmmm.....Maybe if I rescue a duckling, I would be allowed to keep it.... |

There`s a street vendor in Metro Tacubaya who is selling baby turtles along with plastic trays to keep them.
As far as the selmonella issue, my father was a veterinarian. We had turtles. There were pets that he did not allow such as doberman pinschers, but turtles were never on his contraband list.
I have known more people who have contracted cat disease than selmonella from turtles. Actually, I know of no one who has contracted selmonella from a turtle. As for their getting too large, why at some point, you turn liberator and let them go back to the wild. Even if they can`t survive, having lived a healthy but captive life, the few weeks of freedom would be a godsend for a turtle. |

| Dobermans make great pets, those dogs are great with kids. Much better than pitbulls, or even chihuahuas! |

Yeah I think I agree. Being in a soup is probably an easier fate in that case. |

I was happily tucking into a delicious bowl of soup at my enkai in japan. I assumed the ball in the middle contained chicken. I enquired to my kyoto sensei...... "whats this me awd lad?" (he understood shropshire dialect see) .... to which he responded "turtle ...eeto.....organ"
i still don't know which organ, nor do I want to |
