I lived in Zhivopisnaya ulitsa about 10 mins by tram from Shchukinskaya metro for about three months in 2005.Admittedly it was a nice 3- roomed 'evroremont' belonging to the boss of a close Russian friend and even then was a 'steal' for me at $20 per day!!Needless to say,he rented it out for $1500 per month when I left for a holiday and I was exposed to the reality of finding accomodation in Moscow when I returned in January 2006!
From what I hear nowadays it's a nightmare to find anything, even for Russians because demand is so high that landlords can name their price in many areas! If you are a foreigner and have to use an agency you will be well and truly screwed and in fact, one ex-pat boss of a firm says he cannot get teachers to work there because of the situation with accomodation!
Without knowing exactly where you live,$800 sounds like a good deal because I hear of people way down in grotty areas like Vykhino and up in Petrovsko-Razumovskiy who are paying more than that for crummy Soviet era flats! |
