Oh that would've been cool. I got a very good view from my rooftop. Only a few clouds, so you can see it really well, along with Saturn and some star bracketing the whole show.

"Cool" is exactly the word. My offspring is at the Zcalo now, and just now as the moon entered totality, she sent me a one-word message: "Cool!"

I had to teach tonight, so couldn't make it to the Zcalo. But I did catch the beginning of the eclipse while walking up Ejrcito Nacional to my student's class, every few minutes looking over my shoulder at the slowly disappearing moon. Surprisingly, very few people who were out and about at that time (7:30 to 8:00 p.m.) seemed to be taking an interest in this astronomical event. In any event, it was indeed "cool".

I've been thinking to myself over the last 2 months on how lucky we've been to have clear skies at night...seems this winter has had much cleaner air than past winters, in what is supposed to be the worst time of year for pollution. Light pollution is always an issue in big cities, but DF is still dim enough to catch a good night show like tonight.

Did anyone get any good photos?
I discovered how people fake UFO shots--try to photograph the moon with an inadequate camera. Sad

You need good equipment and a tripod to get a good moon shot. I've tried on and off for years to no avail.

Thanks for the link, Melee. The only photos I was able to take last night were in my mind's eye.

I'm the only Canadian at my school and rarely meet others around town. Most here are American with a few Brits sprinkled in for good measure. I deliberately use British spelling in class as a contrast to the overwhelming American majority our students get.

I find it appalling the lack of knowledge people have about us. We were talking about famour people from our countries one day, and one Brit I work with told me I didn't need to particpate since we don't have any famous Canadians!

Here's a news video from the eclipse party at the Zcalo: http://videos.eluniversal.com.mx/paginas/videosdet5499.html (short advertisement at the beginning). My offspring who was there said they also got to see the rings of Saturn through the telescope.

In the three years I taught on the Oaxacan coast, our school (with 15 foreign teachers) always had a mix of 1/3 American, 1/3 Brit, and 1/3 Canadian. We rarely had other nationalities apply for work; in my three years we had no Aussies or Kiwis, and only one South Africaner who lasted just one semester.

I've never met a S. African nor a Kiwi in Mexico! Confused

I've met some, but very few. I think, for one, it's a bit more difficult for South Africans to come to Mexico. I don't believe that country is on the visa waiver program here.

I recently became an expert on immigration proceedures for South Africans! Laughing
They have to apply for a tourist visa in advance, but can do so outside of South Africa, once here on a tourist visa they can change status like the rest of us English speakers.

I've worked with 3 New Zealanders, 5 Australians, and 1 South African over the years in Mexico. If anyone from any of those countries is reading this come on over--we need more of you here!!!

I don't mean to be derogatory, but SA and Kiwi accents can be difficult to understand sometimes, even for me!
