We purposely ordered Vista Home Premium after careful research, and neither of us have had any problems. Have you had serious problems with Vista?

I worked for a couple of month last year doing IT support for a variety of computers. I dreaded getting Vista calls; in particular, Vista's support for USB was terrible. I found many USB devices that worked just fine with XP machines did not function properly with Vista machines.
Mind, you, that was about six months ago, and things may have improved with Vista. YMMV. |

Been having loads of issues with USB devices on my machine, running Vista, as have two people I've seen here. We've been working on it all this week to no avail. Vista coughs up a lot of memory errors as well. I'm not very happy with it, but stuck for the time being.

I don`t mind the topic drift. My basic questions have been answered. Sounds like it may not be a good idea to buy a laptop in Mexico City though it cant hurt to look. Guess I should have bought before I left the States but I didnt want to lug one around until I was settled down somewhere. Oh well. Maybe once I settle down somewhere I can find an expat whose looking to dump one.

We also had problems with Vista and EVERYTHING, our camera, our printer, nothing seemed to want to work with it. Also, we don't have internet at home and Vista kept freaking out that it couldn't contact the mothership. Luckily our neighor happens to be a major Linux nerd and helped us go MS free! We do have the ablity to run "virtual" XP inside Linux for some programs (mostly childrens programs we had) without having to reboot the system. Don't ask me to explain how it works, I leave that to my tech support.
