| You do not get back everything when you claim a refund for shakkai hoken. You get back the pension payments. You do not get free health insurance, what you get is a refund of your pension payments, a pension that you are not eligible to collect unless you are planning to retire here. |

I didn't keep my payslips, but I don't remember my Shakai Hoken payment being separated into insurance and pension. After I got my lump sum refund and the tax refund back and after all fees and the exchange rate were taken into consideration it seemed like I got everything back or at least the vast majority of it anyway. I could be mistaken.  |
