Are you suggesting that the Temple program in Tokyo is poorly regarded in Japan?

I was using that one instance, which just happened to involve Temple Japan, to point out that some people make assumptions about satellite campuses, distance education, and the like.

Excelsior College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It is a legitimate, accredited university in New York.

However, I'm aware that a lot of people (and immigration bureaus) don't know the difference between a genuine, accredited distance degree that took just as much hard work as one from a brick-and-mortar school, and a fake degree like Belford University.

What is Japan's policy on distance degrees? What do they do about degrees from Excelsior College, Thomas Edison State College, University of Phoenix, et cetera?

Note that I'm not asking whether one can find a job with this degree or not, but LEGALLY how it would go over. Would a person's visa get refused if their only bachelor's was from Excelsior College?

My 2 cents:

1st, please be careful what information of Wikipedia you put stock in. NONE of the entries need verification, meaning anyone can post anything whether it is true or not. I know of a great fully accredited uni with apostilled degrees that has suffered greatly because of false listings on Wiki.

2nd, (and I dont know much about this) Look into the apostilled(spelling?) process. Research and see if Japan is a participating nation(almost all 1st world countries are). From every single source I have contacted, it holds much more weight than any accrediting body. Apostilled degrees HAVE to be accepted by ANY nation that belongs to the Apostille convention(which very many do). For my New contract in Korea, they are asking for apostilled everything, including criminal checks, which tells me it has to be some kind of verification system almost globally accepted. You also have to make sure the college in question is supported by the apostille process. If these criteria are met, they CANNOT refuse the degree.

Disclaimer: I didnt read ALL of the post(no time, class starting...) to see if anyone already suggested this. I also know nest to nothing, except what a very trusted and eduated friend told me, about apostilled verification. I asked around, and EVERY source so far had the same story. If the college and job in question belong to this "apostille convention"(my words) it HAS to be accepted.

Please excuse any typos. Fat fingers and time hindered this post.

You misunderstand what apostille-ing (?!) is: it verifies the document as true, not the content or subject. You can have a bogus degree certified as a true and accurate record. Doesn't magically make it a "real degree", just real copy (of a fake degree).

And the process for getting the documents certified is often a freakin' nightmare in most countries. It's not like visiting the local JP or PN.

Gotcha. Like I said in my post, I dont pretend to know even a little about it, just what I have been told. I just started looking it up as now a lot of schools in Korea are asking for documents to be Apostilled. In my research, I started hearing about it applied to Degrees/Diplomas.
