In my small town in the Czech Rep, you might be UNDERSTOOD if you speak German - but you are unlikely to be LIKED!

Even in Prague, German-speaking tourists are usually the ones your students will tell you are the worst.

At least Russian is related to other Slavic languages - it's not useless as a jump-start to Czech or Slovak.

Lotsa Czechs in my small town Very Happy
Many with strong opinions regarding tourists, foreigners moving to the country, and language skills, apparently...
But I can't claim to speak for the whole country, of course, just this little corner of S. Bohemia Very Happy
