Reading the post from "auckies" above and those on this thread, I am going to go out on a limb and say that I think he is not a native speaker of English. Just call it 'ESL teacher intuition'. |
Capergirl,
Good show; nice bit of "detective" work.
Sometimes, that ESL teacher intuition can come in handy, yes? |

I 'm not here to comment about the original question posted here but I agree with Capergirl - I thought the same thing about the English in this and Auckies' other posts.
It seems to be either, really bad typing or really bad English.
Even the subject line of another thread made me think .........
It said:
"You see filipino's in general public in Japan".
The apostrophe is weird and it seems to be a a question but has no question mark and not correct anyway????? |

Ooops - speaking of not correct - I just read my own message and saw that I left out an "is".
I'm a native speaker - I promise!! |

@easyasabc...Don't worry - I believe that you are a native speaker. I am glad I'm not the only one who sees the lack of fluency in auckies' posts. I guess if you've been assessing people's levels of English for a while, it becomes fairly easy to spot the writing of a non-native speaker. |

I love threads like this!
Someone (maybe niavely) posts a message asking a genuine question and all he gets is abuse told to stop trolling(what a stupid term), get a life, go away etc.
People, get over it! He asked in what seemed like a genuine way. Maybe someone could actually answer his quesion(or ignore it if you want to)????
All i can say to the original poster is there are clubs in all the cities. Just be yourself and you should be fine. some Japanese girls like Western men, some do not, simple.
Good luck! |

Where is the abuse in this thread?!?!? To me, the posts all seem to be along the lines of "oh no oh no oh no not another flame war..."
Have you seen the other threads about dating? This thread, so far, has successfully navigated the pitfalls of what seems to be a contentious issue--even if only by referring the original poster to those other threads.
I love threads like this, too. I mean it. Seriously.

Yes i want a nice japanese girlfriend. You guys make it seams like its the worst thing in the world. |
Auckies/Scott.
Of course theres nothing wrong with trying to look for a "girlfriend". Hey, if you are lonely or "whatever", then keep trying, don't stop. Love is great! Oh yeah!
But if you are ignoring other women, exclusively looking only for "cute Japanese girls" and coming all the way to "Japan" to do it, then yes its problem. Sorry, but those sexist-racist sterotypes of "submissive Japanese girls" are just that, sexist-racist stereotypes! Don't fall into that trap. Don't waste your time and money looking for an illusion. Hey, aren't there plenty of women partners for you in Vancouver? Its a big enough city isn't it? If you are just trying to escape your boredom in Vancouver, to find fun in an "exotic" place and hunt for "cute J-girls", then you are really dreaming a big one. Japan is a regular country thats no more "exotic" than Canada is. There is no "Land of the Rising Sun" here Scott. Forget "Black Rain", "Blade Runner" and "geisha girls". The people here are real, just like in Canada. Good people, Bad people, So-so people, all kinds of people. Japan is an ordinary place, with positive points and negative points, just like Canada or any other country. Life in Japan or Canada, is as good or as bad as you make it, as exciting or as boring as you make it. Thats actual reality.
If you want to come to Japan for a real reason, a serious reason, such as an honest job, a career, or to study, then by all means go for it, come to Japan. But if you are just chasing an exotic dream of "cute Japanese girls" to exploit, then don't bother. Do your dreaming in Vancouver, besides its cheaper that way. There are plenty of people who come to Japan looking for "exciting Orient " and have been slapped in the face by hard reality. In many cases those deluded people deserved to be slapped by hard reality. (They got what was coming to them.)
Based on what you mentioned before about your previous "experiences" sleeping with your directors neice and all that, it sounds to me like you should really get your act together, get your head cleared up, get serious and realistic. OK? Do that before you make a big move out of Vancouver. Don't be a repeat offender. Don't bring your problems with you to another country. If you do, then you are only asking to be slapped again by the same reality as in Vancouver. Reality is reality wherever you are. Hey dude, once you truly get your act together, then you can really go wherever you want in this world. And the real women will be looking for you...
Sorry if I sound harsh, but thats my honest suggestion.
Take care and best of luck!
Cheers!

Capergirl, the thought of someone from Cape Breton commenting on another's English competency, whether native or not, is somewhat ironic don't you think? Don't get me wrong, I love Capers, some of the best people I've ever known, but really...come on now. I'm sure most people on this thread have no idea of the state of the English language in the Cape so let me draw a comparison. ..Tsugaru-ben. However, I'm inclined to agree with your assessment of Auckies' English, but don't consider it a worthy thread topic. As my friend Jimmy from Glace Bay would say,
" Wouldn waste me breat on dat" ('I wouldn't waste my time on this'-for you non Capers-or Newfies for that matter). Anyway, I think Glenski was right about reasons for coming here( although I don't think Auckies was "trolling"), even if you are coming here to find a nice Japanese girlfriend. That's undoubtedly better than coming here a la Charisma Man, but still not sufficient. So I guess I'll ask since nobody has as of yet, are you a native speaker of English?
Cheers.

Fair question. Agreed. I'm curious, too.
So, what's up auckies?
What language is your first? You are a teacher (of English), yes?

Auckies,
You may not agree with some of the negative reactions to your question (which, trust me, were MILD), and you may even think we're bonkers/hyper-sensitive/(insert any negative adjective here), but it sounds like you don't understand why the "Western guys dating Japanese chicks" issue can get so touchy. 3rd Eye in particular explained it quite well.
Of course nobody is going to stop you from dating--no need for the sarcasm. Just be aware that there are stereotypes about "Western guys," about "Japanese girls," and about "Western guys who [only] date Japanese girls." Sure, the stereotypes are unfair, as 99.7% of stereotypes are, but they are still out there, and once you enter the dating scene here you will be contributing to them, whether positively or negatively.
Seriously, if you haven't read the other dating threads on this forum, you should check them out. You'll see male perspectives, female perspectives, logical arguments, emotional arguments, flame wars, etc.
