Thanks, Thelma!

Further question - when do I start NEEDING the apostilised birth cert? On entry to Mexico? When applying to jobs?

I ask because it turns out that getting the birth cert authenticated is going to involve a certain degree of sturm and drang and lots of waiting - which may post-pone my leaving!

Thanks!

I had my birth certificate apostilled and brought it with me, but the lawyer working on my FM3 told me he didn't need it, though this may not be so in other parts of the country.

I was told I needed for the migra office in Toluca. W/O apostille they would have towork with the DF office and the FM3 would take longer... But that was 5 years ago YMMV

If you can get it apostilled (and I know what a pain it is, I had to get mine from NY State done and that was a nightmare) do it. If not, cross your fingers when you get here.

I just went carefully through the list of documents required by the INM in Mexico City for applying for an FM3, and there is nothing about including your birth certificate with all the other pieces of paper. I don't know if this is true for INM offices in other parts of the country.

I have read elsewhere on the internet that an apostilled copy of a birth certificate is now required for IMSS health insurance
